Description

A beautiful place in remote location. It is in a valley just along the Tugela river. They also offer lodges/tents, camping near reception and wild camping on Warthog Island.
Things to do: Kayaking, rafting, game walk/drive, hiking, swim in the river and last but not least, relax!
About self-catering, it is possible but don't bring too much, they offer full board, also with camping.
We had dinner, food was very good!

Camping near reception is R350 and on Warthog Island R240. There is a R70 pp conservation levy.

We highly recommend this place.

Latest Check-Ins

We camped at Warthog Island campsite on the banks of the Tugela River.

The campsite, facilities and staff were excellent.
The campsite has outdoor showers with a donkey for heated water and flushing toilets. The mowed, flat grass area around the well-kept sand fire area under a tree easily accommodated the 3 families we were with.

The drive in from Calenso is easier than from Weenen - we did both. 4x4 vehicle and trailer are essential. If towing a trailer the dirt section will take you 60 - 90 mins depending on your clearance. It is an amazing drive into the valley with epic views.

A must do long-weekend away.

Great place with really nice and welcoming hosts! They have a remote and basic campsite down the river, but offer you a safari tent for almost the same price. Definitely plan to have dinner there, at least once (R175pp). It is absolutely delicious!
Contact them in advance to get the directions, Google leads you to the wrong side of the river. Roads can be tricky after rain, 4x4 recommended. Staying here minimum two days is a must!

We camped here for 3 nights and were the only one on the campground, R350 for 2 persons and a car.
We really recommend this place and although is more than we usually pay for a campsite it's definitely worth it.
