Parking on a public launch and swimming area at the base of the dam. Grassy, limited shade, few bugs. We even had a deer wander through camp. There are many parking and picnic areas shown on maps.me around here but all are gated or blocked off. There appears to be two public launch areas. This one is below the dam on the river. The other is above the dam on the lake. At the other ramp we saw secure parking and a bar/restaurant, but we did not investigate. This one is free, peaceful and no services. River flow changes as spillway opens. Parking is safely away from rivers edge.

In our opinion it was not really worth the drive. There are only to spots where you can bring in your boat but that's it. Also quite smelly when we were there.
Nonetheless, if you have a boat or Kayak, it should be worth a visit.
