bar only but ice is available

nice place with rocks at a white sandy beach. Grassy place with mango trees. 15000 MK/pppn. Ablutions are simple, old but clean.

Wonderful Campsite run by Fred and great team of smiling helpful reception staff and groundsman.
Spotless washrooms and kitchen for campers to use amongst the most beautiful secluded beach setting.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite on lake. Under big trees for shade. Staff were helpful and paid $10 pppn.

This was my second visit here, We absolutely loved this place and camped right on the beach, the staff are amazing, we got fresh fish from the fishermen and bbq it on the beach, canoeing to the small island was great too, loads of fish and very clear water for snorkelling too, would love to have stayed longer! Highly recommended, it was only us here so the kitchen wasn’t running so check in advance if you need to bring food.

Very nice and peaceful place.
Excellent campsite with braai places under shady trees. Just pick your favourite spot.
Everything is well maintained and tidy.
A lot of love has obviously been put into this place.

Restaurant is closed for the time being. Softdrinks and beer available at the bar which has a beautiful deck facing the lake,

Access road is also big rig friendly.

I came back to this place out of remembrance for the old owner Jim/Nkwazi Lodge.
In my opinion it is still the campsite with the most beautiful landscape, sheltered coves with big granite boulders and white sand. The campsites are under big shady trees and there are power points scattered at certain places.
The water from the tap comes out a borehole and is drinkable. Access track is small and a bit bumpy towards the end, bug no problem even when it’s wet.
I was greeted and showed around very friendly. Price is still 10$ pp, now equivalent to 15000 Kwatcha, the first night has to be paid straight on arrival. Please ask for a receipt !!!

as said the campsite is very nice and the beach there was beautiful. we got the place recommended because of getting the confirmation letter for malawi visa there so we wrote the owner. we had to pay 50 usd in advance to get that letter. afterwards we realised that nearly every accomodation place is writing it easily to you and we would never pay that in advance. so we went there and the weather was bad and not for swimming/relaxing at the lake. we thought that we can spent the 50 usd on everything on the campsite and stay just one night. at the end the lady owner said we have to pay the drinks and that it is our problem that we have 20 usd left for not staying longer. she even got really rude with us when we asked for the possibility to use our paid money that way. also she told no good word about her local staff. in our opinion she is a nice person as long as everything is straightly like she wants it to be. paid 20 usd for 2 per night. restaurant was closed. no wifi.

Beautiful campsite under mango trees. There are nice BBQ-places and a great beach with white sand. Price is still USD 10 (MWK 10‘000) ppn.

There are a lot of positives about this campsite, there is a lot of space to camp on the grass with lots of shade right on the beach, the ablutions are some of the best we have had with a dokey for hot water.
Having said that, we were very disappointed in the fact that it felt like this was the community bathing area for the village and had to look at naked people all afternoon. There were also people in and around the campsite all night even with a night watchman around. What really saddened us about this place was watching one of the staff members throw his empty can in the bushes and drop plastic merely centimeters from a dustbin which I proceeded to confront the man and throw the litter in the bin for him.

We really would have liked to go there, but for our big rig (height 3.85 m) it was not possible because of 10 cm. After the first turn to the right, after the main road, there is a big mango tree with really big branches. Maybe the owner will cut it in the future.

Really nice camping spot!!!
Great ablutions, power points, friendly staff!!

Swimming pool had no water but you have the beach and lake all for your selves!

The best!

Report Check-In

Nice enough under trees and the beach ok. They have 2 resident fish eagles which is lovely to see and hear. Didn't feel 100% swimming in the water, not so clean. We were thinking of staying a while and asked (via whatsapp) if there is a long term rate available. We were basically told by the lady owner they do well enough without our business so we moved on. Restaurant and bar only open over high season. Owners does not live on the property. The manager is a very nice friendly guy but unfortunately does not have the mandate to make any decisions. In hindsight we are glad we moved on because we tried Mkhuzi next door and were pleasantly surprised. Best private beach and we ended up staying 2 weeks.

Lovely campsite big trees right on lake beautiful painted ablutions

Report Check-In

We stayed for two nights, fasilities is very good, restuarant and bar. Lovely white sand beach with waves. No interference from locals.

Amazing campsite! (They also have chalets). Very well equipped with power plugs, drinkable tap water, a kitchen area, really clean toilets and hot showers (with so many places to hang towels and your clothes, finally!). The camping area is under native trees facing lake Malawi. Only little issue is ablution block is a bit far away, but still 5 stars are deserved! Price is reasonable although a bit more expensive than other campsite in Malawi: 10 USD pppn.

just perfect. well organized. beautiful setting direct on the beach under dense trees. 2 other cars were camping there and it didn't feel crowded at all. one of the best ot he 14 campsites tested in malawi.

Thanks for the many positive comments. We are trying our best!
As to the problem with the neighbor’s unruly dogs: The local Chief has ruled that these dogs must stay inside the fenced property at all times..... and so far there was no more incident reported.

The restaurant and bar are open during the entire Festive Season up until the beginning of January, during the Easter weekend and most public holidays, as well as for bigger groups after prior booking.

Enjoy your stay @ Sunga Moyo!

Place looks great but we did not enjoyed staying here that much.

Guards are noisy during the night, there were some really drunk friends of them visiting in the early morning, manager came with guys who try to sell things.

Also stayed at Makuzi which, in my opinion, is better value for the same amount of money.

Beautiful and pieceful place. Very friendly staff. Camping right at the beach underneath mango trees. Very relaxing and quite. So we agree: one of the best spots on Lake Malawi.

Unfortunately the next door neighbour has 3 big, untrained dogs that she lets run around Sunga Moyo. They bark and jump on the staff and the guests and she does not call them back. Unfortunately the owner was not here to see this.

Nice campsite right on the beach. Secluded and stunning. Grassy and shaded. Good ablutions with potable water. Nice bar. No WiFi but 3G mobile signal.

For us the best campsite at Lake Malawi. Beautiful setting, right at the beach with heaps of shade. The restaurant is unfortunately not operating anymore, so bring all your food with you.
