Latest Check-Ins

reached out to the number to ask about camping and got told the place has been closed for 2 years. but other reviews are more recent than that so maybe someone else took over? 🤔

Report Check-In

We have been there for two days, but the place changed a lot in comparison to the pictures. It seems like a lot of places in Nicaragua, life is gone here.
Still a nice Place if you want to stay close to seaside. The owner opened the shower and toilet for us but electric and Wifi isn’t available any more. 3G with claro is really bad. We payed 1000 Cordobas for two nights with 2 Persons.
You really feel, that travelers and Tourists are missing arround.
Still recommended.

Report Check-In

We went there but the area is closed. Close to it there is „casa la aventura“ (marked on iOverlander). That’s a very nice campingsite too.

Report Check-In

Nandi is great. Had a wonderful time. Fill Italian. Great spot. Relaxing vibe. Pretty chill if you like to surf and relax.

Report Check-In

This place is currently closed. According to the neighbour it might open again in December. I would recommend trying to contact them before to see if they’ll be around as it was unclear on the exact schedule.

Report Check-In

Closed right now. Not a soul in sight. We got here at dark and a guy from down the road offered his backyard to us for the night. Such a shame, looks so nice!

Report Check-In

Backyard of the hostel. The place was ok but we didn’t feel welcomed. The owner seemed to be annoyed by everything we did.. surfpoint is far. Not really recommended.

Report Check-In

Great spot to camp. Electrical available. Nanfo is great welcoming. No restaurant here now, but La Perla on the main road 200m on is fabulous.

Report Check-In

as described. great place. nice beach. friendly owner. great kitchen bathroom toilet hammocks. 5 USD per person.

Report Check-In

We stayed three nights here. Nando is friendly guy. He gave us a spot to park our small RV (20x10ft). You can us their Kitchen ( fridge etc.) & toilets, hang out in a hammock read or use their WiFi. It‘s a well looked after place. The toilets are clean. You can buy a gallon of drinking water for a dollar. The popoyo surf break is a 15min. walk down the beach. The beach is right in front.

Report Check-In

We found the owner friendly and very accommodating definitely pick this place cool chill vibe beautiful beach

Report Check-In

We can confirm all the positives described by others. Nice, cosy place, clean bathrooms and kitchen, good WiFi, hammocks and two lovely cats 😀 We can also recommend surfing lessons given by Nando. Camping 5usd pp.

Would probably avoid this place if possible. We weren’t able to stay and had a super negative experience with the owner. Figured we better warn other overlanders. That said, property looked fine, can accommodate big rigs and right on the beach. Not super close to Popoyo surf spot though.

Here was our experience - pulled up to the property and the gate was closed, not locked. Walked around to see if we could find someone but no one was around. Tried calling and texting the number provided by owner in his post, but no immediate response. We figured he was out on a day excursion (as his post mentioned he does) and we’ve experienced this many times in other places. We let ourselves into the gated area, then saw a neighbor who we asked if he knew when the owner would be back. He told us we couldn’t stay because he won’t be back for a few days then called the owner. We thought he was trying to help but then he passed us the phone saying the owner wanted to talk to us. The owner went straight into saying we opened a gate on private property, we’re trespassers and he had us on camera and we needed to leave immediately. We said we found him on iOverlander and we were just looking for a place to camp. He then said “oh so you’ll leave a review then on how you opened a gate on private property?” We just wanted to get off the phone and told him to have a good day to which he replied rudely. Ha! Unfortunately it didn’t end there, he then responded to my initial text threatening to call the cops (included picture of text - can’t make this stuff up!).

Honestly just a super weird interaction. The guy went from 0 to 60 for no reason.

This is the best place to park in the Popoyo area. Great ocean view, lovely common areas, and the host Nando is wonderful. The shared kitchen area is well stocked and the common spaces feel comfortable and relaxing. Clean bathroom and good water pressure in the shower. Good WiFi. We were able to fit our 24 foot truck camper here. Our dog was very welcome too although the resident cats weren’t so sure about him haha. Nice rooms too if not camping/ staying in vehicle

Los Cocos is a beautiful property and guesthouse walking distance from the famous reef break at Popoyo, and also right next to the quality beach breaks at Guasacate. The guesthouse has a full kitchen (pots/pans/stove/silverware/etc), great, clean bathrooms and showers as well as garrafones of water to use. Nando, the owner, is an incredibly nice person and clearly very much a part of the Popoyo community. He took us surfing several times, and hung out and cooked with us. This place is as hospitable as it gets and can accommodate rigs of all sizes. Highly recommend!

Hi Everybody i am the owner of Los Cocos, i am really sorry i couldn't update the information of my place, but i am trying now because we re- opened, back from a 4 months standby. Now Nicaragua seems to go back to normal conditions. The viability has been restored to 100%, as well as the availability of goods and fuel. All Hospitals and clinics are open and active throughout the country. For those who already know Nicaragua, they will be surprised by the drop of prices in tourist services. So Check it out....

Now the price is 7$ pp for tent or sleep on your van. Without discount if you stay for a while.
The owner is not very nice and the staff not friendly no smile.
The surf spot is a little bit far and the WiFi doesn’t work sometimes.
You can find easily better and cheaper there !

Report Check-In

Yea, this place is rad! Mando let me camp in my van. $5 per night. This included use of electricity, good wifi and community kitchen. Recent renovations have really improved the look and feel of the place! Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and could stay a life time!! It was so hard to leave. Suuuper laid back spot with guesthouse only fitting about 7 guests. Nando the owner is great and welcoming. This is the perfect spot for surfing, beach living and relaxing. We absolutely love it. Big tree shading our van, $5 pp, possible discounts if you stay a long time. Kitchen, bathroom, chill out area, great atmosphere, hammocks. Make sure to bring all needed money with you as there is no atm in town. Fruit and vegetable trucks come every day so make sure you buy supplies off them

Report Check-In

We spend 3 nights here. It's really peaceful and people are friendly and helpful.
You can park under the shade, and just walk right on the beach.
The kitchen is clean and bathrooms are ok.
Fast Wifi

Report Check-In

Stayed here 5 nights in a camper @ 5$/pp no hook ups.
Pros:
-Location- wonderful beach with the perfect mix of relaxation and things to do- (get groceries beforehand, only small convenience store and fruit truck in town)

-Friendly and informative Italian friends duo running the place
- Flat, shaded parking (for probably max 4, double parked)
- Hammocks and shaded hangout area (though tin roof makes it hot midday)
- Can fill drinking water by gallon from jug for 50c or beer from fridge at 40c and mark it in the check in book. Honour system, which is nice
- Pet friendly

Cons
-Saltwater taps and shower
- Grungy kitchen/ bathroom

Report Check-In

Good place to stay and not super difficult to find, just follow the directions given by other people who stayed there. Parking in a shaded (but dusty) car park behind the hostel. Electricity is available but you'd need a long extension cord. Nice owners, on the beach, quiet. One bathroom only but that wasn't a problem. The parking lot is big but the road leading to the property and the gate are a bit narrow so huge rigs might not fit.

Report Check-In

This place seemed the best from the choices already in iOverlander for Playa Popoyo. The guys running it are very nice, and I would expect what they offer to get better. They seem to be trying to make it a good spot for Overlanders. Dog was very welcome. WiFi worked pretty good when the power was not out...which happens a couple times. We stayed 4 nights. Paid $10 usd for two people with electricity for just our refrigerator. You will need long extention cord. Salty shower. Pretty dusty when the wind picked up.

Report Check-In

We just parked here. $8 for the two of us quiet and secure. Good WiFi near the kitchen. Nice people but a bit pricey for what it is. Super windy so we'll move on.
Tried Playa Gigante but they were having a big Full Moon party. Not our scene.

Report Check-In

This place was great, the guys at the property are super friendly - Alessi and Nando are Italians and will help you with whatever you need. they will be away for September but their friend max will be managing the property and you can still camp. You can't fill your rig up with water as they have limited amounts (and it's salty). the bathrooms are nice, the outdoor shower has good pressure. they will let you plug in with electricity, use their kitchen and bathrooms too. the WiFi is good and its a wonderful location, possible to walk to beautiful rock pools at low tide if you walk north. this spot is really hard to find but if you turn down the little access road (where maps says it is) you will go right to the beach, the house is the one on the right with a low barb wire fence, the access is from the back of the property at a gate. recommend, we had a great time and having the communal areas was so nice!

we fit in a 20ft long 11ft high camper with no problems, just a bit of manoeuvring at the gate

Report Check-In

warm salt water showers. Bring enough water with you
