Description

All the other BLM spots we found just outside the park seemed difficult to level up and have very loud noise from the highway. This is a big flat area, tucked away and protected from road noise by a huge bank of earth. It is immediately outside the park boundary gate. The Pinkham trail up into the park from there is high-clearance 4x4 so very few vehicles pass through there, but the spot is easily accessible on a good dirt road from the highway. No facilities. Free.

Nice spot, hidden from the highway by a big levee of dirt, can’t hear it much either. We came from the Pinkham trail and camped here on our way out of the park. The trail is actually not bad at all, only one little spot with a few rocks to clear. Other than that all nice dirt trail.

A good compromise between accessibility and Interstate 10 noise. Good for one night. A single other vehicle (an iOverlander?) pulled in, saw us, and opted for another (noisy!) spot. Thanks for allowing us privacy!

The trail will lead into the park and join the pavement of the park boulevard very close to the visitors center, where they sell passes. We would have driven the trail that if we knew beforehand.

Awesome spot along the main road. The Pinkham Canyon trail looked a little too sandy for my 2WD taste and being alone, I decided to travel a little ways further up the main road. Found an awesome pull-out about a mile down with a fire pit and everything. Just staying in the car for the night. But full bars verizon and data. Great little spot on an easier rocky road.

great spot with some isolation close to 10fwy but 2WD vehicles be very cautious of turning off the main road sand is deceptively loose but stay on the main road you're good.

good att signal, no one nearby at all

I wasn't sure I could make it to the trailhead in my Promaster so I just pulled off the road past the turnoff. I saw a few dirt bikers during the day but I had the entire place to myself (except for horned toads, lizards, bats, and coyotes) for the night. Beautiful night sky with a minimal road noise.

Completely stuck, buried up to the chassis in sand in 2WD transit. Need to call tow. Have one bar Verizon. Secluded. Can hear highway. Decent stars.

lovely spot to relax and not have to worry about a lot of people like the other blm areas near Joshua Tree. Fire pit and decent views. perfect for a full moon.

Report Check-In

Very quiet place to spend a night. Faint sound of the freeway in the background but not too loud. Only a few vehicles passed by during my time here. Close to Joshua Tree National Park entrances. Decent cell coverage on T-Mobile and AT&T. Encountered some flies and other bugs while there but nothing too serious.

Only van there. Quiet. Would stay again. Rest stop on westbound side to empty garbage. Take rest stop route instead of 162 exit. AT&T and Verizon okay. 3 bars with booster.

Great spot for one or more nights. I didn’t pick the exact coordinates but I chose to drive deeper off of the road into a more secluded spot. Very minimal road noise great view of the stars the sunset and the sunrise!

Just far enough from the rest stop that you barely notice highway noise. Def recommend going behind the earth barrier for a totally secluded feel and extra blockage from the noise. Stayed for 3 nights and 4 days with only seeing about 3 sets off-roaders coming thru the entire time. Drove easily on the dirt road with our rear-wheel drive van to the spot mentioned in the first check in that’s right before the 4X4 trail. Beautiful view of the mountains and beautiful star seeing at night. Had to deal with the occasional flying red ant at night and the giant black fly during the day but super manageable if you have the right supplies, ie: peppermint oil, sage and other various smelly things that do well with repelling insects. After the 2nd night discovered a tiny mouse that found its way inside the van where it feasted on our unsealed seeds n such. So if you are planning on staying overnight make sure your food is sealed in hard plastic that is not easily tearable. Those lil guys always seem to find a way in. Anyways, highly recommend if you’re looking for nice a place to dry out and warm up (:
