Description

A modest lodge & campsite on a traditional reserve a stone’s throw from Opuwo, elegantly hidden under Mopane shade along the edge of an ancient river.

Kaoko Mopane Lodge is created in an earthly space, drawn on natural hues of ochre, sand and stone. Using scrap metal from the area & recycled pine from old buildings, the lodge is a blend of modern sustainability and age-old Namibian hospitality.

If the way to a man’s heart is food, the gateway to the last wild Nambian frontier is Kaoko Mopane Lodge & Campsite.

Campsites and rooms (chalets) for a reasonable price. Camping is 200 pppn; chalet 950 pppn. Not much privacy at the campsite, and when there's no wind, the campsite can get smokey because of all the donkeys that are burning 24/7 (especially at night the campsite is filled with smoke). During the night, they also chop the wood for the fire in the donkey on the campsite, so this might wake you up a couple of times...

A very good place before and/or Epupa falls.
With an intelligent way to recuperate, all is very interesting.
There’s a farm behind, and there’s a lot of gardeners who work on the campsite. It’s clean, included pool.
We’ll go back.

Report Check-In

beautiful campsite, incredible view from restaurant and very well stocked bar. 250 pppn but compared to prices of other sites we have been this feels appropriate.

Highly recommend after a lot of wild camping in Kaokoland! Still 180pppn. Great staff, lovely view at bar, hot water open air showers. All as below, except it’s not a homeless camp to drive through to get there, it’s a small village set in a mopane forest and there is nothing wrong driving through. It is even signposted. Enjoy!

Every campsite with a secluded area with private bath, kitchen area, a lot of shade. Lively pool with many chairs around and enough space to relax. Lovely restaurant, bar with views over the river and sunset. You can ask for veggies from their farm next to the camp.

This is hands down one of the best campsites in Namibia! A peaceful place just outside of the madness of Opuwo.
The staff were super friendly and I cannot fault the campsite on anything. There is a lovely pool - pity it was chilly on the day we were there.
I would go back again and again.

This awesome campsite has already been added as “Eco Friendly”, but I wanted to add it as an established campsite as well, so people that use the filter won’t miss it.
It is a fantastic campsite with private ablutions and hot water (donkey system) and beautiful pool, restaurant and bar. A peace of heaven amongst the mopani trees, five kilometres away from the madness that is Opuwo. There are rooms available too.
I have a relatively strong LTE signal for MTC here.
One of the best campsites we have visited in Namibia.

What an amazing experience! Owner operated with attention to detail! Stunning campsites self-supported with own ablutions, wash-up and fireplace, huge space and creative organic design with recycled materials- an artwork!

The perfect place to cool off after a week in the Kaokoveld. Excellent swimming pool, lovely bar with draught beer and a view over the river (dry when we were there) and good sites with individual ablutions. Nice peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of Opuwo.

Report Check-In

Such a nice campsite with private ablutions. Not a scenic one but very comfy and cozy with attention to details. Hot open sky shower, flush toilets, braai, kitchen area under roof shelter, power at sites, pool and a bar with cold draught beer from the bar for 30NAD. Wifi at bar seems limited but was quite fast. MTC 4G signal a bit unstable. Price as of December 2021: 180 NAD ppn.

This place is now under new management which has done many changes and improvements. It's 2.5 km away from the main road - dirt road accessible for motorcycles, any cars or overland tracks.

It's a beautiful spot amongst the trees. Camping is $180. Camp sites have toilets/showers/kitchen and braai. Challets are also available. Really nice swimming pool. Bar and restaurant was under renovation while I was there but owners were so nice to cook for me. Highly recommended this place!
