Description

Hornbill Cave Kibale Camp is a little hidden gem that we were very happy to discover. Coming from Kibale NP, go through Bigodi town and turn right when you see the sign for Kibale Forest Camp then follow the road until you see the signs for Hornbill Cave Kibale Camp. Camping is 10$ pppn but 15$ for two people in a tent sharing. The manager Amsa is very friendly and doing a great job. The campsite has its own forest and swamp which guests can walk around free of charge. A guide can be arranged too. It has 7 primate species that can be seen here in the forest and some frequent the camp. It is a cold shower but a hot shower can be arranged on request and ablutions were very clean. We also enjoyed a campfire at no extra cost. There is a bar but they are still working on implementing a restaurant. Local meals can be arranged through them from Bigodi village. The little details made the place for us such as the candles lit around the campsite at night and the stunning view. Currently, a self-contained banda and treehouse in the forest are being built. The camp is developing in stages. There is a tap for running water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will go as far as to say it was definitely one of the better campsites we have come across for a month in Uganda.

Really nice campsite with a few flat spaces for RTT. Beautiful garden, a small place to cook under the roof and possibility to charge. The owner is a really nice man, very relaxed. He heated the boiler for us with firewood so we could have a hot shower. Abolution blocks are basic but ok. Toilet with running water.

You can see lots of Monkeys and Birds in the trees around the place. There‘s also a short walk you can do in the garden and a bar with cold drinks. Can recommend this place a lot.

Really nice campsite with excellent caretaker (Chris). The campsite is flat, the shower is hot and there is a charge point in the restaurant. Nice
And quite spot near the park entrance (4kms).

Would recommend. Jason can be contacted on +256772932807. because we stayed longer than 1 night we negotiated for $15 for 2 people per night

We camped here for 2 nights. The campsite is spacious and on lush green grass with lots of shade. The toilets are basic - squatting style. The shower is basic too but good enough pressure and Jason made sure to heat the donkey boiler in time for us to have a hot shower any time we liked. Jason also made us a big camp fire each evening and was very helpful in advising us on things to see and do in Uganda that catered to our lower budget. He has a wealth of knowledge. There are a lot of activities to do here free and paid. We chose free which is walking loops here through the forest to see the amazing colobus species and lots of bird life! These are short walks you can do unguided which was a breath of fresh air since everywhere we've been you need a guide! There are paid options to do cultural tours and others (not sure the options since we just wanted to walk for free). A short walk through the forest or on the road you will reach another nearby campsite called Kibale campsite - which is much more built up, therefore more expensive with less charm but we visited for a soda and a cheap supper! it was $15 pp for a 4 course meal but you can pick and choose. main course was $7pp and other courses separate were $3pp. They also have a walking loop you can do where we saw lots of monkeys! black and white colobus, red colobus, and red tailed colobus. Watch out for the biting ants!

Nice camp at the swamps. We where lucky to have a booma because it rains. Very helpful and friendly owner. Very quiet at night only the frogs in the swamps make a lot of noise . The walking path is not doable anymore. We did the chimps tracking from there. We can recommend this camp 100%.

Nice location, not very even ground. No toilet to sit but ablutions are ok. When you walk down and right to a bungalow, you will reach a slippery boardwalk through the swamp.

woohoo ... thank you ioverlander! without the app we would not find this place. One of the best camps in Uganda! The walk through the swamps is magic.

Had a lovely stay here, very quiet and green. You can take a short walk around the compound to spot some monkeys. They're in the process of building some extra ablutions but we could use the one in a room. Next project is a kitchen for a restaurant! Didn't know when it was going to be finished.

Found the place using the directions in the other comment.

Absolute Empfehlung!

Definitely a GEM in Uganda.
No noise at night
Pitchdark amongst the trees.
Turacos were here three times since our arrival.
The owner himself was a guide doing tours so he knows all the good areas and the roads in Queen Elizabeth park. Superb clean low level toilet . Cold water was not a problem for us . I prefer the no restaurant no noise options . MTN signal was good enough . Here things look differant . Cosy campsite with green lawns and not a piece of plastic on the ground. Will support hom anytime again .

Great campsite with extremely friendly and helpful owner, Hillary. Flat areas to park on grass with a shelter for cooking. Clean ablutions with hot water. Lots of birds and a hiking trail (that we didn’t get to enjoy because of rain). A standpipe for water. He is working on electricity and wifi. A really beautiful spot. There’s no sign from the main road. The directions from the last review worked perfectly.
