Description

Wonderful free spot to camp. Beautiful view of the mountains. Lots of pull offs and some have fire rings. Quiet and peaceful. One/two bars Verizon LTE. Two/three bars T-Mobile 5G. Road in is a little bumpy but nothing too bad. Only 20 minutes or so outside Sand Dunes NP.

Beautiful spot for bigger rigs. Flat and spacious.

Report Check-In

great spot in the open. easy to get to and close to entrance Great Sand Dunes NP

Report Check-In

I have nothing more to add to the reviews already posted. Beautiful scenery and amazing sunset. Definitely worth staying at.

Report Check-In

I stayed in the parking lot overnight. There were a bunch of other cars, but barely any people. The sunset was stunning and the mountains quite pretty, and while there was some light pollution at night I was still able to see lots of stars and the milky way. Very little noise.
0-2 bars with t-mobile but barely any actual service; 1-3 bars with Verizon and passable service. I doubt I could work from here, but I could watch YouTube etc
barely any flying bugs - didn't notice anything at night and just a few flies during the day

Report Check-In

Parked in the big dirt lot just as you turn in for the night — was quiet and perfect & so easy being right off the highway and just 20-30 minutes away from the dunes. It got a bit windy for awhile but died down after it rained. Beautiful views and we would definitely stay here again! We had 2-3 bars of 5G with AT&T!

Report Check-In

Spacious area right off the road to Great Sand Dunes NP. Great views! Easy to get to, sedan friendly. It was myself and three other vehicles here on an August Saturday night. I DID NOT drive up the road.

Report Check-In

Great views, easy to get in and out of with a van. 2/3 bars T-Mobile, enough for streaming. About 10 other campers dispersed here on a Tuesday night.
Newly built helipad appears to take up some space at the first spot, but plenty more spots if you drive in a bit. Very quiet, but a bit windy at times.

Report Check-In

Great spot! Dirt road with tons of fire rings and flat spots to pull off, could pitch a tent but we slept in the van. Lots of other cars/RVs and some hiker traffic but enough space to spread out. Up Lake Como road farther is a bit rough, you would need 4x4 to get to spots closer to the mountain up the road but there’s plenty of spots before that area too on the same road that are easily accessible. Pretty views. No facilities, no water. Lots of annoying flies.

Report Check-In

a couple cars in the front parking space, where I stayed for the night. down the road could see some RVs in the distance. very quiet, bugs pretty bad but I think that's the standard for this area. both sunrise and sunset were gorgeous with the surrounding mountains

Report Check-In

One of the best boondocking spots we’ve found. Cell reception 3-4 bars VZ. Beautiful view of mountain. Easy drive in. Can definitely see where I wouldn’t want to go in my rig. Everyone should visit this spot. @explore_RLT

Report Check-In

Road was quite washboardy, but solid. Lots of pulloffs, some with multiple fire rings. 2 bars Verizon.
Very flat and open to wind, no shade.

Report Check-In

Once you enter off of CO 150 you can keep driving back where there are many places to camp and start a fire. Nicely paved gravel road perfect for vehicles with low clearance.

Report Check-In

Great free camping near sand dunes. Lots big spots, the ones lower on the road can accommodate bigger rigs. Some neighbors but lots of spots available in March. Leveling blocks helpful in some spots

Report Check-In

Easy to find. Quiet. Nice view. No bathrooms. Good cellular service.

Report Check-In

Excellent site. A bit less windy during a windy weather period (which is probably most of the time around here:) than site off Hwy 6 on way to Mosca. Lots of room. 2-3 bars Verizon LTE. Great views. Always amazing sunsets in this region it seems.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Pretty big open lot, there were a few other people parked, but it was still nice and quiet. Not far from the entrance of the park.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 2 nights! The road in was not too bad, any vehicle could easily make it. We didn’t venture on too far-pulled in on the 3rd stop. Ground was very level, had a fire ring and fire cover. Great views of the mountains. 10/10 would camp again.

Report Check-In

Nice place close to Great Sand Dunes. Plenty of spaces along the road. Quiet and good cell service.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot near Great Sand Dunes NP. You'll likely have neighbors, seems to be a popular area, but perfect for a night or 2 and not far off the highway.

Report Check-In

Great spot for sure.
2-3 bars T-mobile.
Very quiet open sites.
No water/power/dump at site.
About 15 minutes from the park which has dump and flushing toilets.
We came in at about 4 on Friday in September and it was very busy but still some open sites. Woke up and found someone sharing our site. so it gets very packed on weekends.
Very windy.

Definitely a nice stay. Seems like people have done a good job of picking up after themselves here. No trash!

Report Check-In

Spent an afternoon here after hiking to the falls. Many spots easy to access with 2WD and plenty of space between spots, good feeling of privacy even though the land is all open. Would camp here for sure.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for the night before we visited Great Sand Dunes! Super convenient.

There were about 4 cars/rvs here in the large dirt pull off overnight.

Report Check-In

Beautiful area about 20 min from National park, multiple pull offs able to fit my 21’ travel trailer.
T-mobile in and out, ok w boost.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Quiet and secure. It gets used by a lot of people but there is plenty of space. Good for big rigs and small. Close access to the great sand dune entrance and beautiful views!

Report Check-In

Go slow over the cattle grate at the entrance. Lots of camping spots. We showed up at 6PM on the Thursday before 4th of July. We chose to stay in the first large area on the left with 3 other camping units. The road gets pretty rough and the sites un-level as you go up the hill.

Report Check-In

Pulled into this BLM site after trying and failing to get a spot at Zapata Falls campground. There are a bunch of spots along the road and it was super easy to pull in with our RAM Promaster. We also saw Subarus, Hondas, and RVs getting to other sites no problem. We had amazing views and lots of space to ourself. Seemed like most spots had sites for campfires but current regulations could prohibit them. Also had superb cellular service (Verizon) here the entire time. Overall, great and easy camping!

Report Check-In

Large area for dispersed camping. I camped near the highway, but there are many areas further in. Open area, no shade, but cooled off nicely with the summer rains.

Report Check-In

Didn't see the point to drive up the bumpy dirt road. Main parking lot seemed to be fine for some free shut eye. No posted signs prohibiting overnight stay.

Report Check-In

free campground only 15 minutes from the sand dunes. A dirt road to access but doable with our 2 wd, if you'd want to go more up the mountain a 4x4 is better. Good soil to put hearings in for a tent. Mixture of RVs and tents, you won't be the only one but there is always place. No amenities, so pack it in pack it out. Beautiful view of the mountain as well. No shade place available as it's in the open field.

Report Check-In

Great spot close to the dunes. It is a mix of single spots & large group spots. About a mile back there is a dirt road on you left with more options. Well packed sand road with minor washboarding the first 1.5 miles then it turns to rocks as it climbs the mountain. Beautiful views in all directions and surprisingly quiet for how busy it is. I stayed 4 nights and almost never heard anyone. I had no service on TMobile.

Report Check-In

wide open spaces. plenty of room for many rigs of all sizes. beautiful and quiet. 30 mins from the national park.

Report Check-In

Good location close to Great Sand Dunes NP. Plenty of spots to fit our 42ft 5th wheel.

Report Check-In

came in late as usual so I stopped in the flat circular area right of the highway. traffic is very light on that road so noise is minimal even tho I was only a couple hundred feet from it. solid Verizon signal. reflectors mark the entrance and tires adorn the sides of the cattle guard as you exit the highway.

Report Check-In

Had the spot to myself. Granted it was a weekday and rain in the forecast, but a great spot. Its just an open area easy access,,, the spots farther up the road were taken, but I was more than happy with this spot. the farther you go, the harder the road gets, but this spot is easy peasy.

Report Check-In

Great spot away from traffic noise. Plenty of space for multiple cars, vans, trailers etc.

Report Check-In

Open free camping. Several people parked from cars, van, and campers. Some had tents up.

Report Check-In

The road is a tad bumpy but doable. It is as the description states. Everyone is spread out and quite. The sunset was very nice. The mountain is amazing.

Report Check-In

Just as described. Nice, flat, easy to get to. Great for an overnight. Sign off the highway says 14 day limit.

Report Check-In

Just as described. Easy to get to, flat. A little crowded, but a great spot....and free.

Report Check-In

Free dry camping on BLM land about 20 minutes from Great Sand Dune National Park. Parked in the first site off hwy 150 on right side, but there are many more wonderful sites along the gravel road before it gets really bumpy. One bar AT&T LTE.

Report Check-In

BLM dirt road with free camping. Road isn’t too bad until you go up the hill.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Lots of options in the area. Beautiful open grass lands surrounded by mountains. We heard coyotes at night, were visited by some wild horses and saw a herd of elk of in the distance. Loved it here except the wind, it was windy all three days we were here.

Report Check-In

Found a flat spot without difficulty. Good Verizon service, active coyotes at night. Close to the national park (:

Report Check-In

Easy to navigate roads and plenty of turnouts. The road gets rough (4x4) once you go up the hill but otherwise highly recommended spot. Can’t beat free BLM land.

Report Check-In

Drove in about 1000ft. stayed one night in nice level pull-off. lots of campers visible in all directions. great views
at the base of mt blanca.

Report Check-In

Quiet place right off the road. Three other people camped near us in their vans. Great place especially if heading into sand dunes early.

Report Check-In

Great place but the road up the mountain is very rocky...great views. So very quiet.

Report Check-In

A couple of really nice spots along the road, although the larger ones are occupied by longtermers.
Very quiet. Nice view. Even when every spot is filled it doesn't feel busy as it is all far apart. Fire rings on most sites.

Report Check-In

flat sandy area perfect for car camping. 15min from great sand dunes entrance. passable in my Honda fit. 2 other camper vans spent the night. minimal road noise.

Report Check-In

Great place! Just drive up and find a spot off to the sides to camp . No 4x4 needed and soft sand to pitch a tent on.

Report Check-In

Drive off the 150 Highway (the same highway that takes you to The Great Sand Dunes National Park) about 1,000 feet to large flat clear area on North side (left) of dirt road. Stay here over night, along with a late comer van camper. Awesome panoramic views, watched a storm 15 miles away in the sunset. Super quiet at night. and FREE!!!....Love it Love it Love it
