Peru
The bridge broke on the 23th February because of a landslide. They set up a little system on a rope for people to pass but no car can pass. The authorities told us it will take 1 to 3 months to build a new bridge.
The municipality told us they will try to put a temporary bridge in 7 to 10 days.
Meantime, it is still possible to leave the car in Santa Teresa, cross by this rope system and there a plenty unofficial taxi who will take you for 10 sold to Hydroélectrica.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Still the case now, however, there is a very rough road that is available on some days and depending on rain. I would leave your vehicle in Santa Theresa as suggested
Report Check-InThere is no way to drive to Hidroelectrica at the moment. You have to park up in Santa Teresa, then take a collectivo or taxi to the rope/zip-line where they will pull you over the river. Then a collectivo will drive you to the train station for 7 soles. However, the road to the train station is also under construction and it might happen you have to wait an hour or two before you can continue through
Report Check-InThe bridge is still under construction and closed. Tried to put the other bridge on iOverlander, but don‘t know if it worked.
So this is the other way: When you arrive at the crossing, where you can see an old and a new bridge next to each other, don’t go over it! Turn left at this crossing in the smaller looking road. Go ahead (few hundret meters think) until you can see the other bridge on your right hand site. Go over it. Google Maps will suddenly change to this alternative bridge & way.
Enjoy :)
Report Check-InBridge is still closed, use the detour mentioned in iOverlander as "way to Hidroeletrica".
Report Check-InThis was previously on iOverlander, but someone deleted it so I am readding, because it is still true: Google maps and maps me will send you this way, but the bridge is still under construction and you will not be allowed to pass (signage is not very clear, workers stopped us). Follow the signs in Santa Teresa for the detour to hidroelectrica. The detour is also (at least partly) on Google maps closer to the river. It is doable, but going straight through the construction site with some very steep bits. I was happy to have 4WD, but it was night, so might look less scary during the day.
