Latest Check-Ins

I tried really hard to get here today. Google took me to the second-right off the EW road parallel to the train tracks which was a medium-sketchy two-track (not sure if the first-right is less-sketchy). the wind was blowing very hard and I hit some really soft sand drifts just a half-mile from the site and chose to turn back. cool area but I wouldn't attempt with a trailer and would want 4x4 and a shovel.

attempted in a 2wd e150.

32.0795153, -107.0613069 are correct coordinates.

Great spot but took a while to find at night with the semi-vague directions.

Exit 127. Follow signs for landfill heading west -ish. Road will curve to the left towards landfill and this is where you’ll veer right onto a well graded dirt road. Pass OHV staging area. Road leads to cattle guard, over RR tracks, over another cattle guard. Turn left onto county (?) road B002 as marked on google maps. Drive for a mile or two until road forks, take the left fork. Drive a while until you’ll make a right turn onto the narrow doubletrack at coordinates (32.1081283, -107.0218057). Follow this road for a while until you reach the coordinates listed at the top of this description.

A little disappointed that I didn’t see any wigglebutts or wigglebutt tracks.

Follow written directions but after crossing RR tracks, make sure you CROSS THE CATTLE GUARD before heading south, parallel to the tracks. It does turn into a narrow single track w prickly shrubs that will scratch your vehicle. Very quiet, remote spot. 2 m round trip hike to Crater.

Stayed here for the night. Coordinates are not accurate so read further on the instructions. We didn’t have trouble where we stayed because it was technically still BLM land.

Will have to rename this spot Wigglebutt because we woke up to about 10 signs that someone placed overnight that said “Beware of the Wigglebutt”. Not sure who left it but sure did spook us a bit.

We did get a visit from a local who told he manages cows on the 300,000 of acres of land. Wasn’t sure if his was vibe was to tell us to leave but did say we weren’t welcome unless we smoked weed. 🤷‍♀️

We also forgot to bring firewood with us but we’re able to forage broken branches in the surrounding area. For some weird reason every time I found a glass beer bottle there was a bundle of loose branches to be burned. Thanks to whoever left those clues.

Very quiet. We saw only 2 cars in 24 hours. Train can be slightly heared. Nice hike to the volcano
