Free. Easy to get to with 2wd. Plenty of level spots spaced out nicely. Pit toilet pretty clean. Grounds clean. Close to the road, but a pretty quiet night. The only negative, there were lots of thorns which made it rough for my pup to walk around.
Report Check-InI stayed here to break up the drive to Vegas. Just as described. I stayed on the higher road in my extended length ford transit. Amazing sunset and sunrise over the mountains filled the sky a nice pink hue.
Report Check-InStayed by beach. Made it to the end the of trail leading to the water (first trail to the right of the warning sign) no problem in a fully weighed down stock Promaster. Quiter is far from the road and not bothered by those just stopping for the pit toilet. Don't worry about unexploded ordinance, that is only by the army depot on the south side of the lake (campsite is located on the west side of the lake).
Report Check-Ingood descriptions. needed a stop over after a long drive day. great moon off the lake tonight. decent Verizon signal.
one other rig in this huge place.
There are several campgrounds near the lake, but this location is one of my favorites because it is dispersed camping and sites are spread out. Class B vans may not be able to make it down close to the water as the sand and gravel is soft and loose. I recommend heavier 2 wheel and front wheel drive vehicles stay farther to the top of the hill. Four by fours won't have any problem going farther down. Also, stay on the well marked roads and paths. There are undetonated explosives everywhere and signs warn of this. Walker Lake is incredibly beautiful, although it is sad to see the water has receded greatly since my last visit a few years ago. If you love pristine scenery and a mostly quiet location, I highly recommend this primitive campground. Highway 95 noise can be heard in the background, but it's not too bad, calms down at night after dark. Bring everything you need including plenty of water. This is a carry in / carry out campground. As stated in other reviews, it gets really windy here! Stargazing at this location is absolutely incredible!
Report Check-InSpent a few days here to rest for the second leg of a long trip. Peaceful, quiet, minimal road noise. Great views and rock art.
Report Check-InThis place is a great stopover. Decent, though sometimes busy, Verizon cell signal.
Report Check-InTwo different beaches, close in distance. Easy access. Many sizes of trailers. Great spot right off highway. Wonderful sunset.
Report Check-InConvenient when need a place to crash. Right off the road so lots of highway noise. Nice view of lake and nobody else camping here. Major con...super buggy including a ton of black widows in the bushes. No shade.
Report Check-InStayed for one night. Easy-peasy to find a level spot, even in the dark. Sunrise was beautiful with the lake reflections. Too hot for me to stay, though. Moving on.
Report Check-InVery basic dispersed campground with rock fire circles and 1 toilet building. Close to the highway but not loud. Full bars LTE with Verizon. Beautiful view of lake and mountains. Beautiful views and free.
