Something not right?

Description

A camping possibility close to the town directly at the rio Choco. Windy, large flat area in a greenish surounding. Access from road via a good 400mts long dirt track (slippery when wet). Spot not visible from road but visible from far opposite river bank. We spent a quiet night.
Good Claro 4G!

Latest Check-Ins

Very good night despite the wind and rain. The rise of the Rio Chico is surprising in the early morning.

Report Check-In

Good place to stay for one night. The cell signal is 4G, 3 bars with claro SIM card.

Report Check-In

The pitch for the night is right on the Chico River. From the main road RN40, left (coming from Rio Galegos) a narrow gravel road. The slope ends about 400 m right on the water. A big place. A little windy but ok. Mobile phone reception available.

Handyempfang vorhanden.

We spend two quiet nights here. Nobody bothered us. Good cellphone reception with Movistar

Report Check-In

We came back for a third time. First time a local approached us and asked if we had property near the place when it was obvious we were living in a van. Just odd.
But again, a great lil spot :)

Report Check-In

We came back and stayed for two more nights while getting stuff done in Río Gallegos.
Tip: you can use the restrooms at Zona Franca mall

Report Check-In

Very *very* quiet place by the Río Chico.
Nobody was around but felt safe.
When you get off R40, just drive straight and you’ll come across this spot.

Report Check-In

we spent two quiet nights here, but stood a little further to the right on the path because it smelled very much of fish

Report Check-In

We had a very quiet night here. Nobody else came around, except for a few rabbits. The wind is manageble, when you put your car in a wind-position (for example the front in winddirection) & use earplugs. With this method, we slept about 9h 😃!

Report Check-In

We had no wind during the night, just after 9am wind started lightly - so it was great: easy to find, close to town and all alone. But it is just a place to stay overnight nothing more!

Report Check-In

Ok for a night. If you have the time go to the penguin area and camp there. At the penguin area is a nice official spot to camp, but it is a 3h gravel drive.
This place was very windy, but really quiet

Report Check-In

lugar de acampe y pernoctar..demasiado tranquilo al lado del río gallegos

Report Check-In

Not great but workable

Some shelter for tents amongst the scrub

No people around

Phone signal ok

No filterable water

As described in the last comment, follow the sign el Eden, take the road on the right and it will bring you to the river. Once in front the river take the road on the right and you'll find a nice spot that is very flat. We had a nice and quiet night here.

Report Check-In

Nothing special, but it was deathly quiet at night, which is just what I wanted! Don't listen to the previous comment, the road is not closed, it's just Maps.ME trying to send you the wrong way. Turn where there is the sign El Eden, then right on the little offtrail about 100m later. It's easy to find. If you miss the offtrail like I did, there are plenty more later.

Report Check-In

It was closed when we came ... we stay the night at the police station ... they invited us in their garden hahaha

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one night and saw no one else. It was nice to camp outside of Rio Gallegos as the town felt busy and loud. No amenities out here and there was no water in the river (probably due to low tide). Would recommend though for a good, quite spot if you are staying in the area. Maps.me sent us down a road that was chained off but we headed in on the road next to it (that was open) and found our way down a gravel road to the spot to camp.

Nice and quite but very exposed to the wind. For us the best alternative in town.

Report Check-In

Very quiet spot by the river mouth. Not protection from the wind. We checked the weather/wind forecast before camping here. The high and low tide is something I never seen before! Very impressive.

Report Check-In

Due to road construction now about 5km dirt road from RN3, but still a good quiet spot. Very friendly dog came to visit us at night, probably used to other overlanders ;-)
River was not accessible when we were there, due to large amounts of mud at the riverbank.

Report Check-In

Ok spot for one night. totally exposed but with good views and away from everything. Road works when we were there, but easy to reach

Report Check-In

Best option to us around the city, we tried ALL other spots on ioverlander and this was the only quiet spot. There is a lot of wind but that is the case for all spots around here
