Description

It's expensive ($90/adult and $35/child) BUT we thought it worth every penny. With 60,000 breeding pairs, there are soooo many penguins! Half day tours leave 1-2x/day depending on time of year and the boat is 2 hours each way. Need to book the day before. Absolutely magic experience. Book at tourist office downtown. These are the smaller magellanic penguins - different to the king penguins further east at Pinguino Rey which is a full day 12 hour tour.

We reserved the tour with Solo Expediciones (112 USD per person) but they cancelled due to weather conditions on the day before. Then we tried to go on the next day but they said they are full on that day. Finally they said we can go, but the tour is still not sure to happen due to weather.

Communication is quite poor from their side and it is very weather dependent. You can try going, but just remember there is high chance it won’t happen… we also read some blogs where they said the whole boat was vomiting on the way back haha

Well anyway, we will try to see penguins in Puerto Madryn area in Argentina instead

Highly recommend the boat trip to visit this amazing island. We came in early March and still thousands of penguins to see. The half day trip takes about 6 hours total including stopping on the island for about a 1 hour walk. Bring warm clothes and snacks/food. Penguins are usually on the island from October - end of March.

it's now 63,000 clp. more options of hours ( usually better on the 7 AM for less wind) . it's really beautiful! but as said: expensive, very touristic and short.
we really like it, but if you get/got the chance to see pinguinos before , it's not a must.

It's expensive (35,000pesos pp), crowded (hundreds on the boat) and short (only 1 hour on the island) BUT we thought it worth every penny. With 60,000 breeding pairs, there are soooo many penguins! Leaves every day at 3pm, and the boat is 2 hours each way. Need to book the day before. Absolutely magic experience.
