An amazing area to overland with a fair amount of space with room for a nice campfire. Since it’s right by the river, it’s also an amazing place to fish too. The entrance is messy. if you have a very large over-landing vehicle I don’t think you’d be able to make it through the trees. If you can’t fit, I’d recommend parking at the entrance. The entrance is a bit hidden so the best way to enter is heading west and it is on the left just before the Wolf River Bridge. If you can visit this place you definitely should because it is probably the best place to camp for hundreds of kilometers.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Was there for a night and could've stayed another more. Amazing spot as described and as the pictures show. I went with my dodge caravan and I didn't touch anything but if you have a big or low clearance vehicule I would try to walk the path and check before going because you cannot turn back really while going on the small path close to the river. I was with another car and just one car came in the morning to fish (on a sunday morning). I took out some garbage so the spot doesn't get too trashy. Not too close to the train and highway but in the evening you still hear it. At night it's completely quiet with the river sound. *chefkiss*
Report Check-InNice spot to camp - got my medium-sized SUV and small off-road trailer in no problem. If you are traveling East on the highway when you make the turn off, it is fairly sharp. Short distance in to good spots to camp. Two other groups there when I was, with plenty of space in between for total privacy and room for more. I think I beaver lives near the sharp turn in the river - saw them several times. Mosquitoes not as bad as I expected.
Report Check-Inhealthy amount of mosquitoes and black flies at night. but pleasant space and not unbearable amount of highway noise. road in is tight where the river has washed out the bank repeatedly. clearly someone has been adding rocks to build it back up again. wouldn’t recommend to heavy rigs.
Report Check-InTrès beau site pour la nuit. Très tranquille sauf pour certains camions plus bruyants.
Quelques pêcheurs sont venus pour une partie de la soirée.
Nice hidden spot of the highway. Next to a small river with a little beach perfect to have a camp fire. Nobody else was there except for a couple locals fishing at sunset. The entrance was a bit rough but fine for our dodge caravan.
Report Check-InReally nice spot, no smell anymore. Parked on the second spot and had a great night. One other camper arrived at 9PM and took a part of the first spot. The trail is a bit muddy at the beginning, but we made it through with our sprinter with no difficulty.
Report Check-InNice little spot along the river. The smell is very bad though, don’t know what happened to the river but there are dozens of dead fish everywhere in the river. Road noise but nothing that bothered us. Access is fine but if you’re more than 2,50m (8 feet) high, you night hit the branches
Report Check-InBeautiful site, i was supposed to stay the night and keep heading down the road but ended up staying an extra day. wish i could stay longer, so highly recommend.
Report Check-Ingreat place to stay for a night. lots of people fishing til late, and early in the morning. would stay again.
Report Check-InSand spot on the edge of a river. the access road is just before the bridge. Be careful to keep to the left, the path is a little steep. There is room for ten vehicles. Several fishermen take advantage of the current of the river to catch fish. We were 3 vehicles that evening: a dodge caravan, and 2 ''small'' RVs.
Report Check-InGreat spot right by the highway but completely out of sight and on the water. Room for a bunch of vehicles and campfires. Be careful going down/up from/to the highway, there.s a steep slope on one side and the road looks like it was washed out at some point and may be again. If coming on the highway from the direction of Thunder Bay - the turn off is very sharp.
Report Check-InThe road to the site is quite clear - east side of the road on the north side of the bridge. It is a very hard turn if your coming from the south (we had to 3 point turn which was awkward). Little rough on the narrow track in but lots of space. We parked on the pebbles after seeing the comment about being stuck in the sand.
Report Check-InThe washed out road is repaired. It’s tight for bigger rigs. The spot itself is beautiful for being so close to the highway. But you have a lot of highway noise.
So if you have a bit more time and 4x4 the spot at the lake NW of here is better IMO.
road was not washed out, spot became very accessible for people Who knows how to get there. Beautifull not to buggy and a place to swim
Report Check-InVery sketchy entrance, sharp right if headed FROM Thunder Bay. Best to turn around to approach from the other direction. Bank falling apart and very tight even for small truck.. be careful as the ground is a sinking sand and I got stuck no noticing it in the dark. Otherwise it’s safe and has cell coverage just watch out for mosquitos
Report Check-InThe road to the camping area has been washed out by the river. This spot is unusable.
Report Check-InDifficile d’accès mais ça vaut la peine! Beeaucoup de moustiques!! L’eau est bonne pour la baignade
Report Check-InNice spot directly located on cold river. Still bit snowy but no problem with 4x4. Road is noisy during evening but ok during night. In the late evening a truck came by and stayed the night. They threw stones in the river while we were trying to sleep (we couldn’t see anyone). In the early morning they left. Little bit suspicious.
Report Check-InI was looking for a place for a picnic lunch and stumbled across this little gem. What a perfect tent location! Good for camper Van's and RTT also. If it wasn't October, I'd be on that rope swing! Looks very fishy too. There are a couple great walk-in tent sites 100' downstream too.
You will have to approch from the north to make the tight turn in at the guardrail.
Report Check-InHighway very noisy for a tent, otherwise great. even took a refreshing swim brrrr.
Report Check-InAmazing. My 24 ft motorhome fit down the windy road and was totally worth it. Seam in the river - the salmo are just about to start running, so it will be even more amazing in a Cooke of weeks.
Report Check-InStayed here. It’s a great spot lots of space for multiple vehicles and tents. The road in is hard to spot. If you’re coming from Thunder Bay it’s just after the bridge on the right hand side and a sharp turn. The road in is quite tight due to a partial washout. Wolf River runs right behind the camping spot. There are some fire pits there. Nice and sandy, mostly flat. Still near the TCH so you’ll hear the traffic a little bit. Feels like you’re not near the road. Lots of garbage. Do better people.
Report Check-InThis is such a beautiful spot! Don’t be put off by the gravelly, pot-holed road - it’s worth the detour.
Report Check-InPerfect rest stop. Thank you ioverlander!
The road in was very short… no need for 4x4. We came in with our econoline e350… no issues at all.
Water is fabulous.
Great spot to overnight near the TCH but far enough off to feel like you are away from it. You can still hear big trucks on the bridge but can’t see them. OThe entrance is 4x4 recommended, at least make sure you have some clearance.
Report Check-Inflooded right now. usually a great spot I stop at cross country every year
Report Check-Insuper nice, we arrive late and passed other vans / campers so we took last spot by the water. as mentioned, we barely cleared the trees but made it, 4x4 suggested, we had pickup truck with cab. also as mentioned, quiet fishermen were fishing when we awoke at 630
Report Check-InRoad into larger camping area is tight due to the the river bank sloughing off. We opted not to try it in our Tundra with a camper. Narrow vehicles could still access it. We camped in the first flat area. Nice spot but very close to the highway, so highway noise all night. Great swim hole too! One other camper stayed in the same area but enough space and privacy to not bother each other.
Report Check-Inthis is an amazing spot that you will not want to miss. There's lots of room for numerous vehicles. We were in a Ford Transit high roof and there was another group with a truck camper.
Report Check-Ingorgeous- bottomed out a bit on the way in but worth it for a level spot to sleep by a river to dip in at dawn.
Report Check-InNice spot. It is as most people but the mosquitoes in the evening were intense. spent a good couple of hours swatting them in the camper before comfortably being able to go to sleep.
Report Check-InExcellent place for pedal bike or adventure motor bike as u can ride 100 feet down stream to a camping spots for 2 or 3 small tents
Report Check-Inamazing spot with beautiful flowing river and a snady beach area. pretty wide open so hard to find shade until evening and also close to the highway so there some sound.
Report Check-InSuperbe endroit sur le bord de la rivière, chemin très étroit nous avons dû retenir les branches pour ne pas grafigner le campeur. Beaucoup de pêcheurs locaux à cette période de l’année.
Report Check-Inwe stayed here one night and shared it with another vehicle. beautiful spot, a bit rough getting in. we stayed on a Friday and early Saturday there were about 5 people here fishing. definitely recommend, just know it might be noisy in the morning.
when arriving, continue down the suspicious looking path. if you don't think you could fit 5+ vehicles, you haven't driven far enough!
Report Check-InSorry, correction: In my note I said approach from the west. No. Approach from the westbound lanes (meaning: approach from the East, in fact!).
Report Check-InDefinitely approach from the west. It’s narrow and bumpy on way in - not for large rigs. My van was brushed by trees on both sides. But once in it’s well worth it. Stream sounds and trees all around - but yes there is definitely noise from the highest above. Still, it’s great.
Report Check-InVery close to the highway, but ideal for a 4x4 or AWD rig, if it’s wet it could be a risky entrance for a 2WD vehicle but not impossible. Plenty of space for multiple vehicles.
Report Check-InIncredible spot. Beautiful, many spots, has a rope swing and a little homemade dock. There were 2 other groups there and we all ate togeher around the fire. All good people! If you meet someone named Noles, tell him Eli says hi. He camps there often.
Report Check-InVery near a relatively busy hwy. The site is really nice, though a bit of garbage and toilet paper around (how do people not understand!!! bury, burn or pack out your tp!!)
locals swimming and fishing spot, but good camp spots tucked out of the way around a sketchy corner.
I'm sure there are much nicer, much quieter spots to be found rather than this. Works fine for a night though.
Report Check-InLots of space for vans here, would not recommend bringing any vehicle too big. The entrance is right at the bridge on the left while driving west.
Some noise from the highway, but a good spot for 1 night. Looks like some locals put up a rope swing for swimming too!
