We drove down to the lake (at 33.38765° N, 97.57301° W), where there is a boat ramp. Just in front there is a big tree for shade with enough level space for our vehicle with a rooftop tent. Had a quiet night. No cell coverage here. Across the dam, there are two more spots.
Also across the dam is a network of color coded trails (mainly used by horses) which are on OpenStreetMap, which makes it easy to plot a route for a hike. We stayed three nights.
Report Check-InFantastic night's sleep (even with the heat spell going through Texas). We arrived late and I left the windows open to hear the frogs croaking. In the morning, we walked down to the lake. Gorgeous! Highly recommended. Great AT&T coverage too.
Report Check-Ingreat spot, not far from the paved road. nice views, short walk to a small lake. loop could easily accommodate a small tow trailer
Report Check-InNice spot. Decent shade, barely Verizon service. The nearby lake is pretty. I'm sure there are lots more camping options in the area.
