Description

We drove the side road of the principal highway 13 and found this place. It's a small green hill beside the dirt road. You can camp at the bottom of it with fire pit or on the top. Not very huge the place. On the top possible for 2WD and Van's, in the bottom maybe a bit narrow but possible for one big rig.
We stayed one night. Was quiet and had beautiful view to the valley. Maybe in wintertime too snowy.

This is a good spot for an overnight stay. As you come up the gravel road, there is a fence that has private property. To the right of the dirt road there is a grassy path with tire tracks on the side of the hill. Go up the grassy tracks and you’ll come to a little clearing. Small fire pits, felt safe. We saw a fox, some deer and some elk!

Got here just before Bow Season. The 300' to the top was the only crux but we did it in a G20 Van in 2nd gear. The only way anyone is getting up here in a real winter is in a Weasel.
Beautiful views for 360 degrees. Probably one of the best areas I've been able to see in many years ; thanks to all those contributors before myself for pointing it out.
Be heads up if you come up here in the late summer; the grasses are dry and a Catalytic Converter could get a fire going real quick.

This place is absolutely amazing! Saw many deers, turkeys and birds. A couple spots available.

Everything maple said below applies to me! Stayed at the bottom, plenty of room and tons of yellow flowers. I had no Verizon signal. Some trucks drove by, not many, but they showed no interest.

Really beautiful views and lots of amazing yellow flowers right now! I stayed at the spot at the bottom of the hill cause the slant of the road going up the hill was a bit scary in my top heavy truck camper but I think you could make it up in most vehicles (I saw a truck, jeep, and small car go up for a campfire one day with seemingly no issue). Lots of space at the bottom of the hill for any size rig with enough room to turn around too

wow. amazing spot if you can drive to the top of the hill. we made it in a high roof 2wd, lifted transit but it was a bit sketchy on the way down. the road is very slanted. wouldn't want to be here with any rain - the soil turns to sticky mud which is evident by the rutted tire tracks. and yes, the red ants are still here :)

Stayed at the lower (more exposed) spot for four nights. The ranch across the road had regular traffic, but nobody bothered us. Highly recommend Order Up diner in Rifle!

Secluded spot at the top ridge of a hill, beautiful views with 3 fire pits in different places but it was just us here. A couple of ant piles that you should watch out for but overall really cool spot for 1 night

Report Check-In

This was a very nice spot with a beautiful view. I stayed on top of the hill. It rained overnight while I was here and the main pull out and 2track uphill got very muddy.
Got good T-Mobile service! Barely any traffic around, only saw 3 other cars drive by the whole time. Stayed one night.

Haha sorry those ruts were mine. I tried to go to this spot in May and I almost rolled my 4x4 overland camper over the cliff trying to climb the hill. The ground sank almost 12.5 inches in mud. Crazy experience. The mud is slick and unforgiving and I had a beast of a truck. I would go to this spot when the ground dries up in summer but before then it’s impossible.

Small turn off at the top of the hill for one or two rigs. Spots further up the trail off the country road more. Did have a local land owner notice us and do a drive by to make sure we were alright but other than that didn’t see or hear from anybody. Was wonderful. Not much wood beyond scrub oak. So recommend to bring your own.

Beautiful spot, noisey critters (; saw many elk. here at the beginning on may

The original description is pretty good. We decided to camp at the top of the hill and found a level spot with a great view.
