Campsite just outside the Cimarron State Park. Primitive sites off the main road. Quiet. Beautiful view. 4x4 helpful.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This is a beautiful camp. Several options along this road. Camping is allowed here.. Some sites a bit overgrown but good if in a RTT or inside a vehicle. This site was perfect for our ground tent. Room for a couple vehicles. 4x4 and clearance needed. Took the Jeep all the way to the top of Green Mtn over 11,000’. Just wonderful. Road gets narrow in places but no problem if you have experience driving trails.
Report Check-InAll of the roads just outside the park now have "Posted No Trespassing" signs and "Private Property Eagle Nest Ranch" signs. There are a few roadside pulloffs but the road seems pretty busy even at night.
Report Check-InThere were traffic cones partially blocking the way, but it doesnt state that this is closed anywhere. it may be closed, but I'm not sure. We started up the mountain in our FWD RAM Promaster but decided against continuing after a short distance. 4x4 definitely recommended as we were slipping on the steep, rocky road.
Report Check-InGreat spot just before eagle nest. 4x4 and high clearance highly recommended. This is the only spot to camp in the area if you are a non NM resident as state parks are all closed to outsiders.
Report Check-InSpot was as advertised.
Quiet, flat tent spot with view of Eagle Nest Lake, Spectacular star gazing.
Two other flat tent spots just north of the road. Evidence of a disassembled deer at the upper spot with sun bleached bones.
I will confirm that there is mountain lion activity in this area as my 75 lbs. Catahoula charged not one but TWO full grown cats at dusk. Use caution!!!! Spot is part of the Colin Neblett Wildlife Area.
Everything that ppl have posted is correct, quiet, nice view,if you go to the top of the mountain it’s a tower station (it will be lest stressful if you are able to deflate your tires). Suggest talking to locals about wildlife. Local told me of mountain lion/ bear activity in the area. So be aware of that. But this place is awesome
