Description

Blue River is a recreation (fishing and swimming) area owned by the State of Oklahoma. Free access and camping. No services. Very nice setting. During the summer there is fishing and swimming in the clear waters of the Blue River. During the winter the state stocks the river with rainbow trout. Great place to boondock when traveling through this area.

Stayed for one night and it was dark and quiet despite being the weekend - best sleep I’ve had in my rig! Tons of areas for camping. I didn’t get the license since I was there for one night, and no one came around to check. Gates are closed 10pm-6am daily. Will be back!

absolutely beautiful free camping spot, nobody bothered us, we stayed about 6 days and went into town for food and water and ice which was about 20 minutes away

What an awesome area! We loved it here. Beautiful river with mini falls everywhere. Spacious sites in most spots, a few idyllic ones on the river. Fun for fishing, hiking, relaxing. Would definitely come back.

GPS led me to a random area, but looking at the map you can see where roads go into the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area. This is an incredible gem, the river is gorgeous and many of these spots are on it. The first road on the right leads to quite a few. One that goes left by the parking lot for the swimming area has a few off of it. There is also one at the end of the lot. Verizon is spotty.

Plenty of campsites, and nobody checking for permits. Didn't see anyone hunting or fishing either, mostly just families camping. Little bit of service too!

This place is Amazing. No one really bothered us. Yes it says you need to have a fishing license or hunting one but no one there was really fishing or hunting. I didn't have one and no one asked for it.

Great place. It does have some signs posting you need to have an OK hunting or fishing license to be in the area, but it is a gorgeous spot. You can go decently deep on the right, but you get further from the River access.

A lot of campsites down there.

If you stay along the main entrance you come up to a huge dirt lot you could put many full sized RVs in.

There is a River crossing that is really cool. I was skeptical just looking at it, but a fisherman told me they saw a mustang cross so my 4Runner should be fine. I walked out into the River and it is solid bedrock. Drove across a few times for good pics and videos.

On the other side I found some really good campsites that no one was around so I decided to stay over on this side. Only downside is I had a raccoon come up to me like 3 times while cooking dinner and had a fire going. I ran him off each time. During the night the raccoon or two were climbing on my car and I beat on the roof to scare them away lol. Insane way to wake up.

Definitely worth the stop! This is one of the best free camping spots in Oklahoma. We stayed in a tent right on the river with water flowing down the rocks. Very quiet at night. The road getting in to the campsites was pretty rough but our Honda minivan did fine. There is a road to get to the other side of the river that we did not cross since the water was high and flowing over the road.

Absolutely phenomenal place! Free camping steps away from the Blue River. I was here on Easter weekend and had the entire north section of the campground to myself nearly the whole time. The full site could easily fit 20+ groups. RVs & 5th wheelers of all sizes should be able to find a spot. If you're traveling I-35 between Dallas/OKC, this is definitely worth the detour! Plus, 2 bars of Verizon LTE!
