Mozambique
Mozambique immigration warned us of insurgencies occurring along this stretch of the road between the main road intersection turnoff to Gondola and the military check point south of this check in. They suggest travelling this stretch between 09:00 and not later than sunset when there is police presence on the road.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The 50km between the N1 and Dombe are not longer a very good dirt road.
It’s not Namibia corrugated but it’s corrugated with some potholes and rain damage.
We drove slow.
The tar road after going up is good and the scenery is magnificent !
Report Check-InI can confirm the detour to avoid EN1 north of Chibamo is a good option: the dirt road towards Dombe is in good condition, and the tarmac road from Dombe to Chimoio is really beautiful: many curves going up the hills, a bliss on a motorcycle. Some potholes arriving near Chimoio, but not so deep and much less than in EN1.
Report Check-InWe were on our way from Chimoio to Inhassoro and took the N260 to Dombe and took a left there to get to the N1.
Really recommend this route, beautiful scenic drive on a good tarmac road. The 50km from Dombe to the N1 are on 1 dirt road, but a good one where you can easily drive 60kmph
Biggest concern appears to be the condition of the road, countless 20-30cm deep potholes too big to avoid along the N1. So be prepared for some serious on-roading (as opposed to off-roadring. No 4x4 needed, just good clearance, strong axles and patience to travel at below 30km/h. The recommended route to go to Zimbabwe or Malawi is via Dombé, Chimoio (and Tete for Malawi).
Report Check-InNo insurgencies. There was some action in 2016 involving clashing political parties, but no terrorists as such. Just drive normally and safely, and avoid driving at night.
The bigger issue is being stopped every few km by military checkpoints and being asked for food or water. But again, no threat.
Report Check-InThis message seems to be false and exaggerated, it’s about crime potentially after dark, NOT insurgents (suggesting islamic terrorisme which you have in north). This route is safe taking into account normal (don’t drive at night) precautions. Please don’t create fear and panic unnecessarily or uninformed
