Something not right?

Description

This is a really nice campground just a few hundred meters from the ferry terminal. Lots of ferns and other undergrowth on the ground in a mature forest provide reasonable privacy at most sites. There is running water, and cold freshwater showers down at ocean front (Mermaid Cove).

The ocean here has bioluminescent organisms in the water similar to fireflies which glow at night, particularly when stirring the water by the rocks (at least in mid-Aug). Maybe this is why it is called Mermaid Cove? Dunno. This is also a popular SCUBA diving place.

We stopped in after unloading from the ferry expecting to spend the afternoon, and ended up staying 3 days! :) It's a really nice place

Practicalities -

It's about 50/50 reserved and non-reserved (first come first served) sites here. Unbooked reservable sites will be marked with a green available tag.

Cost without a reservation is $20 even - cash only. There's a store about 14km up the highway that has an ATM, along with a small selection of food and beer/wine.

Good cell signal down at the water's edge (on TELUS), but very patchy to non-existent in the campground.

Sani-dump is $5 if actually dumping - water is free.

It IS a very nice campground, with large private sites and a walk to the beach.

beautiful little campground. A short walk to the water with an amazing view. We stayed at site 1, which was extremely quiet and private. Camp operator stopped in and informed us of a bear sitting.

bring your own wood. We went on a Thursday, apparently there is no wood on Thursdays. if I could have i would have stayed much longer.

$20 for unserviced.

Wow what a nice surprise! Sep 20th 2021 the campsite is closed for the season but people can still camp here, few sites by the ocean are occupied, but we got a site by the entrance which has a creek , few steps down from our site! Site #30!! Huge site in the rain forest !!

Report Check-In

Nice provincial park, private sites, close to the water. $20/night cash. Paved road to get there, dirt road throughout campground. About half the sites were FCFS. Signal at the water but none at the campground.

Report Check-In

This place is a gem, right by the ocean with awesome spots to swim to just enjoy the amazing views. Really friendly staff collects the $20 fee. We came to spend one night and we stayed two (wishing to stay more).

Report Check-In

Right by the ocean, absolutely beautiful especially for a sunset, very friendly host collects fee, cold showers by the ocean.
