We were on our way to the “In the Woods” location, but stopped at a turnout 1.5 miles before reaching it since we had to go quite slow with our van. If you’re tenting it and driving a Jeep or something, you could get to the end of the road in a short time, but most vehicles will have to drive under 15 because of all the potholes and washboards. Very quiet area super close to Yellowstone West entrance, whether you stay the night in this turnout or continue down the road.
(note: access in non-winter months only)

Came on a Wednesday night in September in the campground was full. Try to come earlier or go up the road to the state park campsites.
Report Check-InGreat spot, super quiet! We drove our 2WD class C motor home up the road. Quite bumpy, but worth it! Roads were dry but can see how it would be a struggle if it was raining or wet.
Report Check-Inwe were looking forward to camping here, but like others have mentioned, the road has so many potholes, the drive was really not fun in our 2WD van. we made it about halfway down the road before we ran into huge muddy potholes that we didn’t want to risk getting stuck in. 4WD would be best. bummed that they don’t maintain this road more.
Report Check-InOne of my favorite large, open campsites. Very close to town. Road conditions were fair. Some washboards, potholes and muddy areas from snowmelt, but would be passable for any vehicle. A couple fire pits around the area. Bring bug spray, the mosquitos were bad here!
Report Check-InConvenient spot close to Yellowstone west entrance. We stayed here one night. Relatively small turnout but worked fine. Not as level as the earlier plateau spot.
Report Check-InThe road is open. A few turn outs on this forest road, we spent 2 nights in different spots and both very quiet even for a spot closer to the town. Very close to the West entrance of Yellowstone, very convenient for us, 5 min drive.
Report Check-InCame to try to park here, but the road is closed about a mile in as of now.
Report Check-Innice size turn out. spent the night here with a teardrop. yes road is a bit bumpie but I didn't find it too bad. quiet with Verizon service.
Report Check-InRoad is rough but doable in a Prius if you go slow - it is open as of now. If I were to go back I would have probably just parked on the street when you first start heading out of town, long miles when you have to go slow
Report Check-InRoad is closed. Visited on 6-9-2021. No snow visible on road, but no access.
Report Check-InFYI: This is only a summer spot. Went to check it out in February and the forest road is not plowed.
