A turnoff from the main road goes through an area with large piles of scree about 200m from the road. There is a large flat area in front of one of the piles where it is possible to get out of the wind. Free. No Facilities.

Große Fläche, leichter Zugang für alle Fahrzeugarten. Wir haben hier eine Nacht verbracht. Morgens geht der LKW-Verkehr recht zeitig los. Alpaka und Esel machen ihre Streifzüge.
Report Check-InA lot of activity here as there was a large construction area just next door with many vehicles and people. The quarry also appear to be active with machinery so we didn’t stay and went a bit further up the road to the “esquinas Blancas” spot.
Report Check-InSpent the night here and it was really nice ! Protected from the wind and the road, very quiet, flat. Easy to access with our SUV (no 4WD required). Quite cold because of the altitude and the rain but with the right equipment we could sleep pretty well in our tent :)
Report Check-InNice quiet place away from the road, since a quarry has also wind protected areas. It rained a lot that night but road out there was passable in the morning.
Report Check-InLots of potential spots to choose from here, easy to get out of wind, view from the road and what little road noise there may be. Only disturbance was some, presumably illegal, midnight dumping.
Report Check-InGood place for one night, on the road to chile. Very quiet and hidden from the road
Very good and clean place hidden from the street. Next to some mountains, also a bit wind protected. Cold at night! Super private!
Report Check-InNot the most beautiful place, but it is very quiet and offers some privacy.
Report Check-InProbably the best gravel pit we've stayed in yet. Yet still a gravel pit. Away from the road, very private, and quiet. Great place to stay before or after crossing the pass.
Report Check-InSpot is still there. Not the most exciting place to camp, but ok for a night on the way to Paso de Jama.
