Red mountain campground is located 3 miles down a not so bad dirt Road. (No 4wd needed) from the entrance to Cal Mountain BLM recreation area. See on map
It’s a free BLM campsite! Approximately 10 campsites with parking spots picnic tables fire pits pit toilet and porta potty’s.
Nice view of clear Lake and Lake Mendocino from the top of the mountain. Lots of burn pine trees also lots of firewood. Ranger said you could have fire in the fire pits. We spent one night here very cold and quiet at night very hot and loud in the morning with people dirt biking as this is a popular OHV area
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Took church group and it's a very rough road, wouldn't take anything but a 4x4. Didn't see it posted but they close a gate about half way to the campground whenever it rains. It's a bummer to get all the way there and have no where to camp.
Report Check-InPretty bad road. Wouldn't come back just for this reason. I suppose it's a good spot if you spend a few nights. Not a lot of options for boondocking in this part of California. Two bars Verizon LTE but 0.4/2.2mbps. Only one person here, no bugs, clean toilets, grills and fire pits, not a lot of OHV noise at 8pm on a Thursday, and lots of trash bins. Trash everywhere, it seems people dig cat holes even though there's a bunch of pit toilets. Pack out your ******* TP people.
Report Check-InFree BLM campground (up to 14 days) a few miles up a bumpy dirt road. Made it fine in my Chevy Express extended. Pit toilets and nice views. In/near a recently burned area.
Dirt bikes and four wheelers during the day but quiet at night.
Report Check-InNice place. There are three pit toilets but only one was open. ATVs riding at night until 1 am so not too quiet a place until late. Great views. 2wd ok if not too long. 1 bar AT&T and 1 bar T-Mobile.
Report Check-InNot much to add other than this is a great spot. OHV area, 4 miles approx of rough road ... great views, loads of firewood when we arrived... very quiet.
