Description

This free site is just outside the park boundary on the north side. Amazing view of summit and surrounding area. In a slight depression to offer a little wind protection. We arrived at park entrance and were informed that camping is not allowed within the park. Not sure what to make of that since others have camped within and have mentioned an established campground.

Superb spot 2 minutes from the park entrance. We stayed 2 nights here, it's very quiet. FYI you are visible from the track. The view of the volcano is superb, the sunrise incredible! The canal that passes here has fresh and transparent water (except after a thunderstorm). No Claro signal.

Much better than camping of inside the park and free. nice view, quiet but no amenities.

Calm, quiet, we were in luck and had no clouds over Cotopaxi all night and day. Just please remember to keep it CLEAN. We picked up so many trash after other people who camped here.

Awesome place in a little canyon, views are amazing and very close to the entrance of the park. Loved it!

Very beautiful wild camping spot. A small river, wild horses, deer, and of course Cotopaxi (when it's clear). Some nice easy walks around the area with streams and small waterfalls. No cell service.

Awesome place !! A little after the ranger station on the left. With clear sky you have an amazing view on the Cotopaxi. And there is a little river right on the spot. Get up early to see it better!

We arrived at 6pm and the park was already closed (the gate closes at 3pm). So we slept in the parking lot in front of the rangers house. The bathrooms cost 0.25 cents, but were open at night. Our friends were with their dog, and were able to access the park with her with the emotional support document.

Fantastic site(s) - there are several options within 200m of the gate. The views of Cotopaxi are phenomenal! It was 42F in the morning when we woke up and windy. The weather is in constant flux. We also hiked around the lake in the park and drove up the steep and rough road to the parking area and then hiked the last 350 vertical meters to the Refugio. Park is free. Last entry 3pm

we arrived at 5pm and camped at the Checkpoint. Ranger is very nice.
there are two official campsites and a few haciendas inside the park.

Camped right next to the entrance of the park. Beautiful place with lots of space and a toilet. A few trucks and cars in the morning but all in all a nice wild camping spot with a great view of Cotopaxi when it's not cloudy. Cold at night!

There are many small primitive camp options just outside of the park boundary to the west. We arrived at then north gate after hours so we were not able to camp inside the park as previously planned. Take note the park gates are open 8am to 3pm, plan accordingly. The bathrooms at the north gate were open 24 hours so we had a bathroom option just a short from camp. We woke to an amazing view of Cotopaxi.
