Tons of waterfront spots on this piece of Rye Patch. All dispersed. No services. No people. But 3 LTE bars on ATT and Verizon. Nice stop on the way to explore Denio, Steens, and Sheldon. If driving something bigger or 2wd, be careful off of the main dirt road. Lots of deep sand.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Zero road noise and train is barely audible. Only 1 other car drove by. Lots of options that are quite flat, some sandy some graveled, on the way to the pin. Lovely views. Verizon had nearly full bars but was pretty slow.
Report Check-InGot here when dark, solid place to sleep. Quiet n nobody around. Lots of bugs at night, bunch of different places to choose near the water. Some deep sandy spots so scope it out first before driving down.
Report Check-InThis is Lake is more of a swampy meadow. At least June 1 2023 it is. At one time this was a lake. Now boat ramp dry and facility looks very abandoned. Off the main road it is really Sandy. We drove down a fairly steep hill toward the pin. And I am super happy I got out and walked to scope out. It was very Sandy and my Sprinter RV would have gotten stuck 100%. We got turned around and went back to the boat ramp parking and literally parked in the lane of the turn around. Tons of bugs, no people, no bathroom, no swimming. I was super quite though. I am not sure if this is still a fee area? But we didn't pay. This Lake is not how it looks on Google maps. At one time it was. And looking at the dry boat dock, it was probably really nice.
Report Check-InNice spot…. Here when its rainy…. Road in can be a bit muddy in sections. However this place would be amazing dry. You could camp in so many different spots. 4wd will help with the better spots near the water and softer sand. Strong cell coverage!
Report Check-InGood spot. We were the only ones there and set a tent up in the parking lot next to our car. It was pretty windy but far enough away from the highway that we didn’t sense any traffic. It was clean and free. The latrine was covered in graffiti and we didn’t go in so no word on whether they’re still useable or have TP. Would stay here again.
Report Check-InDecent place to stay for the night. Reservoir was dry when we stayed. Washboard roads really rough in a few spots. We parked in a gravel pullout because the camp site we found was really soft sandy dirt and possible weather coming in so didn't want to get stuck, stayed in frontwheel drive van. Verizon service decent 2-3 bars.
Report Check-Ingreat spot, lots of space for multiple vehicles. it's a dry lake bed but pretty views of the mountains. we had 1 other van there with us, pretty quiet.
Report Check-InDidn’t make it full to the reservoir. We came in late at night. Found a lightly sanded pull off about 2 miles down the road. Flat washboard is a good description of the road. Quiet and a beautiful place to wake up in! Enjoyed the wildlife (kangaroo rats and jack rabbits)
Report Check-InDried up river bed. But still gorgeous view. Was super quiet and clean. 4 bars Verizon. Perfect place in between Salt Lake and Bay Area
Report Check-Inincredible place to camp. tons of spots for all vehicles. like other people's head, the stars are absolutely beautiful on a clear night. safe for solo travelers as well.
Report Check-InShrub land next to a dry reservoir. No services. The kids loved exploring the dry reservoir bed and we didn't see anyone else. The stars were breathtaking.
Report Check-InI didn't see anyone else for the night/morning I stayed here, so quiet and peaceful. Main road is fine but some of the others are really sandy so be careful if you don't have 4x4! Some broken glass and litter but it's pretty dispersed. Very dried up & smoky when I was there
Report Check-InDrove past the pit toilets since the reservoir was pretty empty. Got an amazing spot with a view of the mountains. Road can get sandy so be careful
Report Check-InLots of nice spots. Great desert views but not much lake to speak of. Stars are gorgeous. Any vehicle that can do flat washboard roads should be able make it.
Report Check-InBLM managed land. Can be cold in winter. 10 deg when we were there. Nice site with good access. Cell service was fair. No water. Pit toilet.
Report Check-InGorgeous! Camp right next to a lake. Flat land to park or set-up tent. Bathrooms but didn’t check to see if unlocked. Great views. Special bonus - someone shared their political views before we arrived that made us feel right at home :)
Report Check-InNice place to stop while passing through Nevada. Good cell service. A fair amount of litter but not a terrible amount. Lots of kangaroo rats, some cattle, fish jumping in the reservoir, and a crane or two makes an appearance here and there. The soil is very fine like silt in most places so expect it to get everywhere if you have a little one like we do...
Report Check-InTons of waterfront spots on this piece of Rye Patch. All disbursed. No services. No people. But 3 LTE bars on ATT and Verizon. Nice stop on the way to explore Denio, Steens, and Sheldon.
