Description

Free, dispersed camping on the Clark Canyon Reservoir. 14-day stay limit. Pit toilet and trash collection which are both managed very well. Toilets are very clean! No hookups but there is a water pump that disperses well water. We put the water through our Berkey-style water filter and it tasted fine. No way to hook up to tanks since there’s no hose attachment on the pump. Also, each site seems very level and has a covered picnic area and metal fire pit. There are about 15 sites at this campground, most would accommodate larger rigs. Excellent cell AT&T and Verizon service!

So beautiful and quiet! It can be windy but for the whole day I got there it was just clear and sunny, clean pit toilets and garbages, lots of magpies and bunnies, had a great stay and definitely will be back! I had the place all to myself on the campground area to the left and there was a van and RV on the other side.

Yep, it was windy, but the view was beautiful, and the dark night sky made for a wonderful sleep. We'd come back here.

Fantastic place to camp in winter. Pit toilets, nobody else around, no bugs and so quiet.

Fantastic boondocking spot for rigs of all sizes ! Take the Clark canyon Dam exit south of Dillon , and either take one of the many free sites near the highway ( but well off the highway for noise ) or continue past on the paved road to the horse prairie area. Many spots to choose from , all have fire rings and picnic tables with shelters. Free ! Beautiful view of the reservoir and so quiet.

Awesome spot, clean toilets, trash cans, fire pits, no drinking water though, really cool view of reservoir, and lots of spots, each spot had a little shelter thing too to get out of wind or sun if needed like big enough to pull the picnic table into

This area is so beautiful! Tons of free camping opportunities right near the water. We didn’t go down to the water due to blue/green algae signs and we have dogs. Should clear up quickly I assume as weather cools down. People were still swimming all over but we can’t risk that with pups. At this particular spot you get your own covered/partly walled picnic area with benches and a metal fire ring. Would definitely come back! Great AT&T service and also trash on site which is so rare and awesome.

Fantastic spot right on the reservoir. Nice flat camping spot. Screaming fast data. No hookups but pit toilets, fire pits, and picnic tables. Free for 14 days.

also great Verizon service! One of the biggest reasons I chose here so I can work!

FYI, if you use google maps make sure it’s taking you to the right place. Maybe it was just my mine phone but kept trying to give me a “faster route” which led to the middle of a field 20 minutes away lol. Got here on a rainy Sunday and decent amount of campers here but still spots left. There’s kinda two areas, one with majority of the sites and where most of the campers were and then another to the side with three spots (one being a handicap site). I chose the one to the side and got the spot next to the handicap site, seems more secluded and private than the rest and got a great view of the water. Both areas have pit toilets, not sure about the other side but some of the cleanest I’ve been to yet! Sucks that it’s raining but hope it clears up. Glad to have a shelter, good for car campers so you’re not hauled up in your car the whole time during crappy weather.

Beautiful little spot, level sites with private enclosed picnic tables. Only a few campers last night but could see it being busier as the weather warms.

Report Check-In

pleasant campground with room for 20 campers and no size limit. Only one other camper there today. Still low season in March with ice on the lake. Clean toilets and lots of garbage bins. About 3 miles in from I15 so pretty quiet. Road is paved all the way in. There are other campgrounds right off the highway.

Well-maintained campsites with no hookups, uphill from the shoreline. Tent-camped here one night. Arrived after dark, but there were still a few spots available and we were able to locate them just fine. A couple of car campers, a few rv’s, and a van. The site was relatively flat, with maybe just a slight slope. Pit toilets nearby, though might bring extra tp just in case. Very pretty views and good birding. Good cell service. Would definitely return here to camp

Gorgeous spot. Reservoir was great for swimming. Couldn’t get the water pump to work. Neighbors were a little loud but it’s Father’s Day weekend.

Lots of spaces available at this time. We had one entire section to ourselves, but I attribute that to the colder weather. Pit toilets, fire pits, trash cans, and water well pump. Picnic tables are covered and mostly enclosed which is nice but it's because of the MASSIVE wind storms that roll through. 3 of 2 nights were trailer shaking nightmares! Regardless of the wind, it's a beautiful setting. I saw 4 bald eagles hunting one morning soaring right over my head. Lots of fun hiking (no trails just exploring), bird watching, rock hunting, photography and wildlife right outside our front door. We easily drove our 25ft travel trailer into the site. Can stay up to 14 days; we would have stayed longer but the weather pushed us out.

**I would give this place 4.5 stars (-0.5 for massive winds)**

Very nice area! So relaxing by the lake although when I came it was at a record low temperature of -7 degrees F. But amazing views! Good cell service.
