Description

Large spot along river looking at Mexican Hat. Fire pit. 4 bars Cell service. Big rigs can fit on this spot, but probably wouldn’t chance the road coming in as there is a steepish hill with a sharp turn. We are towing a motorcycle trailer and got in fine.

Just as the other reviews described. Awesome, quiet spots right along the river with fire pits. Super serene with direct views of the Mexican Hat. Wasn’t a dead zone, but still not great cell signal on Verizon. A bit of a steep drive to get to the spots closer to the river. There’s a “campground” right off the road that you have to pay for (it’s just a level area with a campground sign and a website where you’re supposed to pay if you stay there) so we kept driving past it to the river so we wouldn’t have to pay and nobody bothered us.

One of the best spot I've stayed so far in this month long road trip. Beautiful, quiet, next to the river and cell reception. I stayed 2 nights but felt like staying forever!

Beautiful place with the view of Mexican hat. walking distance to the river. Many arrivals in late afternoon.
Plenty of space to share with other.

Spot is great and flat. We have a van and made it down just fine. Wouldn’t drive anything larger. There are spots above that say there is a few. However this is all BLM land so no need to pay.

This is not a big rig friendly place to camp unless you camp in the flat parking lot as you come into the area to the right or along the ATV trails to the right fork of the main dirt road. SUVs and Class B vans (4x4 highly recommended) will be able to make it up the steep grade over and switchback down the dirt road to the river sites (left fork of the dirt road), Class A and Class C rigs will not make it over the steep grades in the gravel. It was very windy when we visited and the wind was fierce. It rained hard and made for a muddy trip out of the camping area. Be sure to check the weather forecast before visiting. This is a beautiful area with gorgeous views. There is a sign at the entrance with a website address, it's not legit. This is BLM land and it is free. This is a great place for tent camping, jeep, four-wheel-drive camping and SUVs pulling small expedition type campers. Sites by the river are spread out. Lots of great hiking here too. The river runs super fast, use caution near the water.

Awesome spot! Tons of great sites on the road. Right near the river, beautiful views, some good area to explore! A great comfy pit stop on your travels... We even saw a deer!

Take your time going down the first hill, no bigger than a van. Go slow. It’s absolutely beautiful! I think the lower section is dispersed camping an no fee. Above ask for a fee.

Epic spot. Can sit by the river out of the wind or explore the area on foot. Smaller rigs and tents can get down closer to the water and be really sheltered. Someone put a handmade sign at the pullout trying to get people to pay online for camping but this is BLM so ignore that. Website was non-existent anyhow. There is one more spot with ok internet before the hill shadows you from the cell towers at the end of the road. Verizon roaming 2Mb, Att on mofi 18Mb. Please keep it clean!

Great spot, relatively flat. Could fit about 3-4 vehicles. Hardly any Verizon service, but good AT&T service
