Description

Legal Dispersed camping above San Luis Obispo. Epic Sunrise views. Look on maps and there are a few service roads to get here on google maps. Take Forest Service Rte 30S11/High Mountain Rd and there are lots of pull offs everywhere. We found a great spot very far up. If windy I don’t recommend being exposed as it’s very open up here. Watch out for rattle snakes. AT&T 3 bars. No amenities, leave no trace, your safety is your responsibility.

Latest Check-Ins

I’ve been at this location for two weeks. Nice breezy spot the wind keeps you cool since there’s no shade. The road has multiple gates and a few signs saying road is closed, but it’s not closed. High clearance is required and 4x4 recommended. I pulled my rear wheel 3500 Chevy express up this road. Barely any issues. I would not recommend a two wheel coming here after it’s rained as there are multiple river beds that go across the road. They’re empty now but beware. There’s loads of glass and shot gun shells up here so no earthing. Not a lot of traffic maybe 1 or 2 vehicles a day. 1-2 bars Verizon & 2-3 bars T-Mobil. I definitely recommend.

Road here isn’t bad, never used 4x4. Depending on driving experience a van build would do the road easily. I personally wouldn’t want to drive a large RV here. One small water crossing. There are a lot of pull outs before this overlook that are good. 3-4 bars LTE (Verizon) loads videos and Spotify quickly. Ground is pretty level I didn’t have to use blocks. Have seen a medium sized bear and a bobcat since being here. Lots of wildlife scat around. Can see the tip of a reservoir below and some rocky formations in the distance. The Ranger station on the road up has water to fill tanks. Haven’t seen anyone else so far. No bathrooms.
