Description

As of 2023, there are two separate border buildings, one each for Argentina and Chile. Each side has its own Migraciones and Aduana now.

Park and enter each building to get passports stamped and aduana taken care of.

Argentina only inspects vehicles entering the country.

You can save some time entering Chile by filling out the customs form online at https://ingresoachile.cl/

Report Check-In

We arrived unluckily at the same time as several buses and cars so it took around 2h to cross chilean border (both entry and exit are in a single line). If this happens to you we recommend bring your jacket as it can get cold outside if the line is out of the building.
Argentinian side took around 5 minutes

Report Check-In

Argentina to Chile. 2 separate buildings for now as previously described. crossed on a Saturday around midday. very quick and efficient service on both sides with very friendly staff. My mate is over for a month and couldn't believe how easy it was............I told him they're not all like that.

Report Check-In

Argentina to Chile
Exit Argentina, lots of people but surprisingly fast. you need to go to the end of the room to do migracion and that come back to the line for aduana. took us 25 min
Entering Chile, get back in your car and drive for 2-3 minutes. very quick, you do migracion in the first room and then aduana and sag (2 different counters) in the second room. it took 7 min. very superficial inspection just opened the door

Report Check-In

Maybe we were just unlucky, but beginning to end took about 6 hours arg-chl (Saturday 3:00pm), flashbacks of Central American borders! Try to make sure you’re here on a good weather day because you’re going to be standing outside for a long time. Dress warmly, bring headphones or a book to pass the time.
Argentinian side: walk past the huge line and go to the far side office first, then come back and get in line.
Chilean side down the road: pretty straightforward. Checked our car thoroughly front and back. Saw them checking a lady’s purse too. Milk & jar of olives were okay.

Report Check-In

leaving Argentina. smooth and easy, nobody even looked at our van

Report Check-In

Exiting Argentina. First find a parking spot near the building (some people park on the street). Go inside to Migraciones (took 2 minutes). Wait 40 minutes for the Aduana to cancel the TIP (long queue).

Report Check-In

Chile -> Arg:
Chile: very fast
Arg: very slow, took us more than an hour on a sunday morning. There were many truck drivers, aduana was only working with two desks. thorough control of fridge and all cupboards.

Report Check-In

checked the refrigerator and superficially checked the back of the van

Report Check-In

Easy crossing from Chile -> Argentina on a Sunday morning. The Gendarmería had just a quick look at the back of our car and let us go.

Report Check-In

Wednesday, early evening. Exited Argentina with our camper within 10 minutes. Fast, easy, friendly.

Report Check-In

Nous avons mis 2 heures pour passer cette frontière. C'était un peu long mais tout s'est bien déroulé et la police était gentille.

Pasamos esta frontera en 2 horas. Fue facil y la policia estuvo amable.

Exiting Argentina (1 February 2023)
Arrive early. We arrived at 8:25 and there was already a massive line. Thankfully they were fully staffed and it moved quickly. First migraciones and then aduana to stamp out your vehicle. Only Argentinian passport control and aduana in this building - ignore the signs inside for Chilean aduana.

Report Check-In

Heading into Argentina from Chile at 12:25 on a Wednesday, Feb1st. There was a line of about 20 people in front of us. With this line, and the aduana process that is in the same building, it took us about 30 minutes to get processed. We then got the van and drove the van up under the covered area to chat with the aduana agents there, they were impressed with our journey, looked at our stamped slip of paper, congratulated my wife on her “castellano” (she speaks good Spanish, but not really castillano, haha) and then said buen viaje. They did not ask to look in the van at all.

Some of the descriptions for this and the Chilean border control have mentioned one building. As of 2023 this is not the case, each side having its own immigration and customs buildings.

Report Check-In

Chile to Argentina. This is the second building you stop at after first checking out of Chile. Go first to migration then aduana. No stamp in passports, but stamps on small control paper given in Chile. After TIP is issued, drive under awning for quick inspection and turn in stamped up control paper. Expect lines in high season.

Report Check-In

Arrived at 2:30 on a Saturday. Line was down the street. Standing in the cold wind. We parked the camper in the parking lot. (Many cars were just parked in the road and n the sides) Then we took a chair, coffeeand book to the line. Alternating the wait. Wandering around revealed the same conditions going the other way.

After four hours we touched the building. Then an agent asked how many persons in party (2), looked at both passports, gave a slip of paper and sent other back to wait at vehicle. One person entered and waited to have passport checked, slip of paper stamped (no passport stamp) and then move to line to turn in TIP. The paper TIP was stamped and held. The. The slip of paper was stamped again.
Done. Never checked vehicle or
Dogs. Return to vehicle in parking lot and advance to the Chile entry point. (Ioverlander pin is in wrong location)
See my comment for entering Chile on other pin.

Report Check-In

Argentina Chile. We arrived around 12:30 and that was the worst moment to cross. A very very long line under a cold and windy weather was waiting for us. Do not cross between 11 am and 2pm.
Once this step is done, you need to go to the other step 1 km further.
-First go at the brown container, window Paso 1 to get your stamp.
-Then go inside at migracion to get other stamp
- Then go to the following room to register the car and fill in the declaration jurada
- Take the car and pass through the tunnel to get the sanitary verifications (better cooking eggs, veggies, meat, and fruit before crossing, they'll let you do it on the parking lot if you don't want to waste it.)

Report Check-In

From Argentina to Chile with an european Campervan:
First you need to stop at THIS building to do the exit for Argentina. Migraciones & Aduana Argentina are both in this building. Very fast process.
You are even getting a little paper with all the steps you need to do. Every step will be stamped on this paper.
When you have finished the exit (Migraciones & Aduana), you need to drive to the next building in Chile … (for continuation, look up our comment there) 😊

Argentina to Chile, towards Ushuaia.

At the Centro de Fronteira Integracion Austral (White Building) we enter on the left and at Migraciones de Chile and then at the Argentina booth to exit.

We received a paper with the stamp of these two stages and used in the sequence (photo).

Then we drove to the other customs point marked on the iOverlander.

Report Check-In

Chile to Argentina, north bound.
Had to park and stamp out on Chile side (brown building) BEFORE proceeding north to Argentine customs (white building). These agencies are not together as stated in original 2017 post.
Easy crossing though, no inspections for veges or travel cat (?!?).

Report Check-In

Travelling by bicycle northbound towards Rio Gallegos. Relatively quick process, inspects my documents, asked about my bicycle. Stamped me back in to enter Argentina. No check of luggage for fruit or vegetables - or anything else for that matter.

Report Check-In

Argentina to Chile. Closed 1pm to 2pm and 5.30pm to 6.30pm. If you don't arrive shortly after the break it might be quicker cause after the queue is loooong. But everyone was friendly and helpful, it just takes a while. Relax, pamper yourself with a coffee and change shifts in the queue.

Report Check-In

Argentina to Chile. The worst border I have experienced. 5 hours waiting outside in cold and windy weather, with rain. No organization, no information.

Report Check-In

Chile to Argentina: No exit stamp of Chile. Quick and friendly. Only a short look from outside in our camper.

Report Check-In

Efficient without empathy. Out of Chile and into Argentina in one process.
Customs get mad if you start to leave without surrendering their bit of paper but there is no signal when you are completely finished. Quick and joyless experience even though it wasn't too busy early morning.

Report Check-In

Efficient without empathy. Robotic experience. No too busy early in the morning. There is nothing to stop you from driving off when you're done. Customs get mad if you start to leave while still holding their little bit of paper.

Report Check-In

Pretty busy border. When you arrive with some buses it will take you some time to get through. From 8th of December border is open 24 hours.

Report Check-In

Really quick control, paperwork done in 5 min. Staff not as nice as others borders in Patagonia.

Report Check-In

We drive from Argentina into Chile here. Very easy. Very friendly. Only get an entrance stamp into Chile at this border- no Argentinian exist stamp. First room you get your exit stamp. Second room you give your Argentinian TIP, get your Chilean TIP, hand over your immigration papers (checked yes to fruit and when she asked why we just said in broken spanish, “we don’t have any but just to be safe” she smiled and gave us a little spanish lesson). Then outside where they barely looked in our vehicle and we were on our way. Very easy. 5 minutes.

Report Check-In

People working here were really bored, not nice and not helpful (almost not talking to us) but we didn’t have problem to cross from Chile. We are French we have a Chilean car, they only asked for padron and passports. Chilean custom made us fill a paper (declaracion jurada) and the guy at the end checked briefly our car. Not a pleasant moment but it was ok for us...

Report Check-In

On a passé toutes les frontières sans problèmes avec notre vehicule chilien mais pas ici! Une assurance mercosur est obligatoire alors qu on nous avait dit que le soap suffisait!

Report Check-In

no problems for foreigners with Chilean a car. Like what's been mentioned before you need your Padron, rut, insurance and declaration jurada

Report Check-In

one of the easiest border crossings yet, out of Argentina and into Chile within 5 minutes, very quiet on a Sunday afternoon, also was not asked about insurance and had no problem with a Chilean plated motorbike and a foreign owner leaving Chile, although declaration was required.

Report Check-In

Foreigners with chilean car was ok: just show our passeport + padron + rut + internationale insurance.

Report Check-In

dog papers are valid for 30 days make copies and you can use the same certificate for multiple entries.

Report Check-In

heading south bound there's no need to stop here. all is done at the southernmost building not sure about northbound.

Report Check-In

Chile --> Argentina.

Ridiculously easy border. No jeep inspection. They will ask for a proof of valid insurance in order to get TIP for Argentina. Gave me 8 months just like that. Total time spent: 10 min. Also, i was first in line at 08:00. It helps.

Report Check-In

Very long lines in the shared CHL/ARG building, predominantly for the ARG Aduana.

Report Check-In

Exited as foreigner with a chilean car !

1. I went to a Registro Civil to get my Certificado de Inscription y Anotaciones Vigentes (historical of the car)

2. I went to a notary with the section of the law 17 (http://www.aduana.cl) and ask him for a "declaration jurada" which states that i will bring back the car during the allowed period of 180 days.

Go to the border crossing, take the declaration jurada (1 per chilean border crossing) and the law and show the custom you know your right (always with smile 😁)

Enjoy your trip ! 🚌☁️☁️

Report Check-In

They don't let enter chilean cars owned by foreigners into Argentinia. So show only old owner papers and a driving authorisation or better cross somewhere else.

Report Check-In

Straight forward border, very easy. They took apples and garlic. Milk no problem, cornflakes as well. Nice and friendly. Took 30min

Report Check-In

There are two different border buildings here. If you are crossing from Chile to Argentina (northbound) pass the first building and proceed to the second. Both Chile and Argentina's immigration and aduanas are here. There are four "stations" you must visit starting at #1 to exit Chile' #2 enter Argentina ' #3 Chile aduana, #4 Argentina aduana.
I assume it is the same in the other building southbound.
