Description

Absolutely beautiful site near minutes from I-90 with better cell coverage than I get at home. Full bars 4g, streaming that Netflix life and backing up videos online. We can actually see the cell tower from this site. Great flat spot for our van, perfect South facing sun for our solar panels. Pit toilets a few minutes away at entrance to road. Slightly snowy but still accessible with 2wd e350 van on Thanksgiving. Connects to tons of OHV trails, close to Butte (one of the few states in the US with no open container law?!), check out the ringing rocks too! Living in a van finding good free campsites with adequate cell coverage to work/live is hard. Do yourself a favor and spend a few stress free days here 'catching up' with the 'real world online'.

Cool spot. Great Verizon service, spotty att service, if any. Sorta flat but hard to find a perfect spot in our van, leveling blocks recommend. We got swarmed by a heard of cows while cooking that stayed for 30 minutes. Quiet. Fire ring. Possible human poop nearby, but unconfirmed. Made it in our 2WD Sprinter just fine. I wouldn't go any further tho. I prob wouldn't bring a schoolie or big rig back here tho.

Great spot with views off the highway. A bumpy road to get here like others mentioned, but we’ve done worse. Lots of mosquitos!

Report Check-In

Exactly as described. Bumpy road to get in but plenty of spots with established fire pits to stop over for a night.

Report Check-In

Pros: quiet after dark, nice views even in stormy weather, lots of possible spots to stay, mostly flat parking, big space available for larger vehicles at top of first climb, not far from highway, good T-Mobile and Verizon signal.

Cons: road has a lot of fairly deep potholes that need to be carefully negotiated, could have lots of ATV noise some of the time.

Great located, just outside town and a short drive there are plenty of places to camp

several pullouts really pretty area. great t mobile service. stayed here for about a week.

along the whole road are several pull outs. some bigger than others. also large spots where at least 8 different rigs where placed. you can slightly hear the road but not too bad. it got quiet filled at night but when we arrived at 1800 there was still lots of space free.

many places for camping in a row. beautiful view of mountains and sunset. many returning local campers stay here

Report Check-In

This was a really nice place but decently crowded as it was the weekend. Lots of trailers and large trucks hauling side by sides and ATVs. Sites are pretty clean and and large. Lots of room to spread out especially if you have high clearance to reach other sites the trailers can’t. Leave it better and enjoy!

We stayed here two nights. Very quiet and nobody bothered us. Great Verizon service as stated. Can see how I’m other reviews this place could get busy, but we had no problems finding a spot. There are spots all along homestake pass and delmoe lake rd. Seems to be used frequently by off road vehicles and there are also some close by hiking trails

Report Check-In

Really cute place to stop. Very pretty and lots of camping sites that are relatively spread out. Signs saying you are required to have bear safe storage. We stopped at a spot with a few other campers but we’re still spread out. Fire pits at each site.

Had a similar experience as the other user. At 3:30am someone walked into my campsite and was looking around. Even tried my door handles until I hit my remote start. When I got into my drivers seat I caught sight of someone signaling with a flashlight and then a pickup truck coming to pick them up. Sketchy place.

Plenty of folks here on a Friday night in late July. Passing through for one night only, but still was able to find a spot for my truck with slide in camper off of a side road. A few iffy characters around, but beautiful and best of all, free.

Report Check-In

put our 24 ft rv thru a beating going down this gravel road only to find it packed with locals. we came at 3pm on a Thursday and drove 4 miles in and didn't find anything.

locals in their trucks were driving super fast and recklessly down these roads, some that have cliffs as well.

overall this place didn't pass the vibe check. if you're looking for a secluded and private camp spot, you won't find anything here.

updating previous post. i know this will turn some people off an otherwise beautiful site but in the interest of community safety: stayed here again on thursday night and had an incident at 3am. an SUV with the lights off pulled up next to my truck and was clearly scoping for stuff to take. there was even a light attached to the back of the vehicle with a remote switch so they could turn it on without activating the headlights. clearly a professional grab person / team. not sure if it was the same guys i saw earlier in the week but suspect so. i had stuff out around the truck but no visible tent so I imagine it looked like an easy target. the pulled away as soon as they saw my dog get up in the back of the truck cap window. would not leave anything unattended or unlocked at a site especially at night and make sure it’s visible that you are camping and attending camp. felt like scavenging / burglary rather than any attempt at robbery.

awesome spot. seconded everything in the other comments. tons of spaces. great views particularly if you follow the road further up. it’s an access road with camp spots all along it with fire rings and so forth. there’s definitely some local hunting / shooting / camping traffic and some power line workers were using the road at 730am then back out again at 430pm. stayed for a couple of days. there are clearly some groups doing some longer term camping with rvs and trailers near the front of the road. the only note i’d have is there was one instance where someone drove by and didn’t see me and started to pull into my site then drove off after they heard my dog and saw me - just a note to be careful leaving things out and in view if you leave your vehicle.
