Description

6 FREE campsites in Big Spring, Tx. Some have picnic tables and fire pits. It is to the left of the entrance of the park, right before the gate (which opens at 9 AM and closes at 10 PM).

The park has a ton of fun things like a playground, amphitheater, Frisbee golf course and a real golf course, hiking trails, a small children's water park, and pavilions.

The park has a bathroom, and even though gates close at 10 pm, it is still accessible by walk. (About 7-10 minutes from camp sites.) There is a pool area, so they will probably have showers. I visited in December and pool was closed.

4/5 Stars (iOverlander won't let me adjust my rating.)

All sites face one direction and dead ends, making it difficult for larger rigs.

Stayed two nights and loved it. Very chill. We stayed at the last spot which had a little loop (you could fit multiple vans if needed in there) and a fire ring. The nearby amphitheater was impressive! Our dog did alert on the nearby golfers in the morning and there is road noise, no big deal.

Worth it even for a night if passing through and want a break from a parking lot. Free, nice, community supported spot. Also, 5 star laundromat nearby - all washed up!

This is a quiet place to drop in if your traveling along I-20 in mid texas. There is a posted sign stating max three day stay and it is no charge. I have a 27' class A towing a CRV on a dolly and was able to use the last space bc it has a loop into which allows pulling out forward. The spaces have tables, grill and the lot is fairly flat so little to no leveling. Aesthetically it lacks but its not dirty.

Report Check-In

Just up the road from Walmart, it’s close to the road but not heavy traffic. Spots are fairly level and could easily accommodate a class B or a small trailer. Walked the park; frisbee golf, 18 hole golf course, kids parks, day use areas & restrooms. Great spot for a short stay. Wish there were more like this on the road.

Report Check-In

Good little spot, other descriptions are spot on. Arrived just before sunset, we were the first ones here, but were joined shortly by two more around dark.

Road noise is pretty consistent but not too bad.

As others have said, this park is wonderful! Beautiful lake, nice camping areas, and FREE! If we hadn't had reservations the next night at Hot Springs, we definitely would have stayed two or three nights.

Report Check-In

what a great little park! Some road noise, but otherwise worked great for a quick overnight stop.Entrance to the RV spots is on the left just before the actual entrance gate. 👍👍👍👍 four thumbs up.

Free! 6 paved sites on the left as you enter Comanche Trail park from 87. Sites are fairly level and have picnic tables, grills, and trash cans. 3 days allowed in a month. No hook-ups, no dump, but works if you're able to dry camp for a few days. It may get busy in the warmer months, but we have been the only ones here at this time. Strong 5G connection with T-mobile.

The park has trails throughout, which is nice for walking the dog. There are a couple of restroom facilities about 5 mins. walk from the campsites, but they are most likely open seasonally. They were locked up while we were here. There is also a golf course, disk golf course, and aquatic/pool center at this park. Pool looks fun for kiddos, but we was also closed up this time of year.

Stayed 2 nights. Very large, nice park. Bathrooms could be better but they work. Sign says camping is only allowed for 3 days per calendar month. Usually pretty empty during the day but you will have neighbors at night. Good ATT reception.

Report Check-In

I was the lone camper. As others described, very nice and easy! Good Verizon service. Less than a mile to the Catholic Church!

Report Check-In

Clean bathrooms, and they didn’t close the gate when we stayed.

Report Check-In

we initially parked in one of the 6 or 8 camping spots to immediate left of the entrance. but then we went for a walk in the park and noticed a big parking lot overlooking the amphitheater with all kinds of plug in posts. moved the van up there but none of the posts are active. decided to stay anyways because it's quieter off the main road. will see if we get a knock on the door later tonight or not...

still a great stopover. If you love golf..... love big spring.

Report Check-In

A fantastic spot for a night. 6 Paved, mostly flat spots on the edge of a world-class park with golf, frisbee golf, pool, amphitheater.

Report Check-In

Perfect place. Quiet. Near a golf course. Didn’t receive a ball :) Restrooms 5 minutes walk, clean.

Report Check-In

This was a great campground, considering there aren’t very many tent campgrounds around Midland. I called earlier in the week multiple times and finally got through to the city but they were friendly and took my name to let them know that I would stay overnight.

Report Check-In

Nice flat camp at the end. Little road noise. Restrooms are older, but well stocked with supplies. Restrooms open when we visited. Appreciate the hospitality of Big Springs.

Report Check-In

Enter the campground on the very first left before the gate. 6 spots with garbage cans and a table at each. fairly level spots. We were the only ones camped there for the night. All of the bathrooms in the park were locked with gates over the doors however we were able to use the golf course bathroom in the morning. The staff were very kind. Clean spot. Highway traffic is not overwhelming. Felt safe.

Report Check-In

Free city campground with 6 paved mostly level sites. Stay is limited to 3 nites. Adjacent to the city golf course. NO facilities. Rigs under 30 ft, self contained. The road to the sites is a deadend. Check it out before entering.

Awesome little camp spots for a night! I would recommend driving past the gates before you get settled so you know where the restrooms are - past the swimming pool and past the park. There are signs directing you to the little restroom building. I’m certainly glad I did this because I ended up using the restroom building as a short-term storm shelter the night I was there. Thankfully, it was just high winds and some dust blowing around; nothing damaging.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot, we had no issues of any kind. Two others here, truck camper and another Promaster van. Spots are spaced out about 35ft with picnic tables in between. Couldn't find the toilets mentioned, the park toilets appear to be in the aquatic center which is closed after hours and on Mondays. Likely there are other restrooms somewhere but we couldn't find them.

Nice spot anyway, windy night but otherwise pleasant, def recommended for a nice free spot!

Report Check-In

Nice camping area just outside of the park. The spots aren’t overrun with homeless people or trash. It was pretty quiet with one other camper for the night. Walmart and Fast Food are a couple minutes away. Good spot for an overnight stay. 2 bars of service with Verizon.

Report Check-In

As described, the campground was easy to find. Pulled in just after dark. Only 2 other campers using the campground so we were spread out and spaced out nicely. Grounds were clean with picnic tables and trash cans dispersed through several spots. Paved pads, some more uneven than others but nothing terrible. Some road noise but better than expected. Good Verizon cell service and data. No bathrooms, water or electricity but quiet and fairly private. Definitely a place we will return.

Report Check-In

Nice little campground in a large park. I arrived at 3PM and was only camper. By dusk there were 3 total all of us were just passing through. Perfect for vans, truck camper, and smaller rv’s to perhaps 30’ overall length. Road noise is present. Trash cans. No water, no dump onsite.

Report Check-In

Great place to spend a couple nights! No problem at all with homeless people like the last person said. But it is uneven and I barely got my 25 ft RV in there. There are trees right where you don't want them when manevuring an RV. But other than that a great time in a fabulous park. Also I was walking around the park and it looks like there were old RV sites up by the upper parking for the amphither. There was electrical and water outlets like a regular campground but they are probably turned off.

Report Check-In

As described. Quiet as can be at night. Max length for rig is 24’.

Report Check-In

Six free level camping spots with picnic table and a few grills right next to a golf course. A little noisy during the day as it’s right on the road, but super quiet the night I stayed. Great find!

Report Check-In

The sites are unlevel and anything much larger than a van will have a hard time getting in. Homeless people with shopping carts and tents are occupying half of the sites. We did not stay.

Report Check-In

Great free spot. I was the only one that stayed there. Went for a short night hike and saw a few stray cats.

Report Check-In

Quiet and clean campsite. Close to shopping and restaurants. Has trash bins at each campsite. Free! And good cell service

Report Check-In

Pretty nice spot!
Next to the road but traffic noise wasn't too bad.
Trash cans, picnic tables at every site.
Only one other person here with me in January.
Some of the spots arent perfectly level but it was alright.
Would definitely stay again.
