Description

Small Parking area on North side of ferry. Toilets at café. Free. For 20km after ferry going North there is really nowhere to camp. On South side there are a number of places to camp near the ferry perhaps the best is Rio Negro Bridge (S47 58.848 W73 10.235) which is about 5km from ferry terminal. You could also spend the night at Southern ferry (S47 58.077 W73 13.426) although there is less room – we saw cyclists making camp inside the waiting room where there is a toilet.

We took the ferry from Puerto Yungay to Rio Bravo on May 2 so outside the tourist period. There are two boats a day at 10am and 4pm. The crossing took us 55 minutes, it was quiet. Free.

spent two nights here - Thursday night to catch the Friday 8 am ferry south (every Friday at 8 am they transport hazardous cargo which essentially means the COPEC tank truck; and if there is room on the ferry, they will take every one else, too). Went to „End of the Road“ south of Villa O‘Higgins and back, caught the last ferry at 7 pm from Río Bravo back to Puerto Yungai. Stayed on the same parking lot both nights, quiet, some cyclists spending the night in the ferry passenger building. Café was not open (end of season, maybe)

As described earlier, good place for a night, quite level and the old lady in the cafe gave us the ok to stay. She leaves to go to her nearby house shortly after the last ferry so it’s just you and the ferry crew ( who sleep on board and don’t bug you ) after that. She locks the bathrooms when she leaves but the other building remains open and is good shelter for tenters. There is also a power outlet in that building that they don’t seem to mind you using to charge batteries/phones etc. We had a very peaceful night here.

The Cafeteria El Peregrino is run by an old couple, very nice people. The man is a very helpful mechanic.

Refugio muy bueno, no tiene baño ni agua para beber pero los de la barcaza son super buena onda y te pueden prestar baño y dar agua para poder cocinar. :)
También tiene luz pero no electricidad.
El negocio que está al frente es muy caro.

The lady at the nearby cafe said it was fine to sleep in the ferry waiting room. Great to have a clean, warm and dry place to spend the night out of the weather.

Small, busy parking area. But when the ferry drops you off at 4:00 AM, there is not much choice.

Several places to camp going north. Look for bridge and wild camp on right side about 10km
