Beautiful spot, a small gravel lot overlooking a broad canyon in the plateau, accessible via a short gravel road from the Old Oregon Trail road. The road in is potholed, but okay for 2wd; just take it slowly. Slight incline through much of the lot; the best level spot seems to be along the back (west) side. Best for smaller rigs; over 26' might be pushing it a bit, and I wouldn't attempt it here with a trailer, but it was a perfect fit for our 23' van. Room for maybe two-ish rigs without interfering too much with parking for day use visitors. Gorgeous sunrises, and a blocked-off road provides a walking path to a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys. No facilities, but good Verizon signal. You can hear the freeway, but it sounds distant. To get here, best to take exit 234 which is SE of the location. (Exit 228 from eastbound requires you to go through a one-lane tunnel with 12'6" clearance under the freeway.) Note: this is located on Umatilla Nation land; please be respectful and leave no trace.

Beautiful spot. We stopped for lunch. No issues getting in with our class A. Bit technical in places (slope, trees to avoid, sharp turn) and may struggle getting out if it’s not empty as you’ll want to drive out the entrance in anything longer than 25ft. No need to use the 12ft underpass as you can use the junction one click east.

Tried to head that way but you have to go under an overpass at 12'6". A little too close to our 12'3" height.

Spend the night with one other van. it's close to the highway, so there's a lot of noise. the view is breath taken. no bathroom.

For just off the interstate places - exceptional. Level, fantastic views with some short walking trails. Good service. Highway noise of course. Recommended.

Some road noise but the view is worth it

Google maps had a serious mental breakdown following the location from the link in the app so I recommend just searching for "Squaw Creek Overlook" and finding the spot that way. Flat, level and room for several vans or smaller rigs. Decent 5G in Google Fi and just one other car that came up for the view then left. Constant distant highway noise sounds like wind. Pretty view and it's good for the night but be aware it's A LOT colder here than down by the valley near the border!

Didn't spend the night but seems like a relatively better option than the state rest areas. No big trucks idling and only some highway noise but beautiful views and a relatively medium large parking area that is pretty level. Would stay here on future travels through.

This spot was absolutely gorgeous. Hidden from the highway I had no idea these mountains where over here. There was one other car camper here but there is plenty of space for a few more. Great overnight spot with a beautiful sunrise.

Been there twice now. It's a nice quiet, out of the way spot to spend the night. the view is beautiful! For some reason they removed the trash can between our first and second stays. Access is a bit tight for anything over 27 feet long or so...

Report Check-In

Beautiful overlook. Please stay on the gravel, as erosion is visible off road.

Windy, and the road is an interstate so it is definitely noisy.
No "No Camping" signs, no amenities.

Google shows roads and markers beyond the paved parking lot, but when we visited all the dirt roads were blocked by boulders. A short walk and there are amazing vistas. Not a busy spot on a Thursday, but heard the highway all night. Clean and free camping.
