Station was closed off with cones going by at 4pm today. Looked like some kind of construction or fixing was going on.

Opened and active. Asked nationality, and where we were going. No papers needed.

Do you have some marijuana in your vehicle? DO NOT pass through this checkpoint. As a reminder to international overlanders, or dummies like us who come from states where it is legal and have dropped their guard and who’d purchased weed in states where it is legal, marijuana is still illegal on the federal level and illegal in The Great State of Texas. The federal employees at this checkpoint are legendary in their diligence to locate drugs, even very small amounts, in possession by citizens, especially those entering from the New Mexico side. The dogs come out and they treat it like sport. The county, seated in the nearby town of Sierra Blanca, then sends a sheriff’s deputy to fine people on the spot after issuing misdemeanor citations or haul them to lockup in town for felony amounts. The county/town of Sierra Blanca treats theses busts as an industry. Post bail, get a trial date, hire an attorney and after months and a few thousand dollars later it’s settled. You can’t make this stuff up. Like a bad cliche in a cheap movie.
