Description

There are several beautiful primitive campsites along Chattahoochee River Road, with plenty of space for car camping. The road is long, unpaved (graveled), narrow, and winding along the mountain, but relatively flat. I don't know that AWD is essential, but I was glad to have it. In hindsight, I don't think the road was too risky under normal circumstances. I didn't make it as far down the road as I'd planned, because it was due to rain in the morning and I was worried about getting in too deep. But the drive back out in the rain wasn't too harrowing. There is a sign at the entrance to this road saying the road is closed ahead, but it's unclear at what point it's closed. I didn't encounter any reason for it to be closed, at least as far as I went in.

Stayed here for one night very peaceful and quiet. Access road was gravel but we managed in our 4x4 sprinter van no problems.

Got in late at night, 2 wheel drive van with motorcycle carrier. Road is a bit rough in spots and definitely tight in places for only one vehicle, but overall not too bad and gravel is in ok shape. Drove about 1.5 miles to the first spot. Fairly level, fire ring. Very quiet, no cars or road noise.

Amazing number of primitive sites. Beautiful location along the creek. Some sites require 4X4, but most easily accessible by any auto.

Warning: one lane road - not recommended for any large rigs or pulling a trailer. I didn’t realize this, luckily I never met anyone coming the other direction.

Good spot though, could turn around at the location. Have a Fire Transit pulling a 6x12 trailer. Great views and secluded spot.

Nice level spot to back off the road and car camp next to a creek. There is a campfire ring on with a spot for a tent just across, but the pull off is not as level. Quite cool for the time of year with the canopy above. The road closed sign has been bent back. I did see where there was a side road permanently closed further down.
