Description

Nice Island!
Accommodation: In Yumani you will find lot's of hostels, all seem to be more or less the same price (80bobs pP for private room with showers and breakfast, 50bobs pP same without breakfast y 30BOBs pP for double room with shared bathroom, without breakfast).

Transfer: we went one way ticket Copacabana - Yumani (20bob pP) and the next day from Yumani to Challapampa (25bobs pP) and from there we walked approx 3 1/2h back to Yumani (path closed at the moment due to local conflict). You can also do it the other way round or go directly to Challapampa.

If you don't want to carry all your luggage the trail: you can leave it for free at the restaurant directly at the harbour, before the inka stairs.

Boats leave from Copacabana to Yumani at 8. 30 and 1.30. Going back it's 10.30, 3 and 4 pm.
Maybe there is more frequent transportation in high season.
Entrance fees(supporting the communities) Yumani - region South it's 5 Bob pP. Challapampa- región North, archeological sights it's 10 Bob pP.
Challa - middle region (you cross it when you walk the trail) it's 15 Bob pP.
Enjoy your stay!!

Just confirming that you can now walk to the north of the island, the villagers resolved their dispute as of January 2022

Report Check-In

Our last night, we stayed here in the south. However, we actually started in the north town of Challapampa. We took a boat from Copacabana there and stayed 1 night in Challapampa (more than 5 options for accomodations), asked around town and ate dinner at the only restaurant offering food that afternoon. We felt very safe and welcome. Woke up the next morning to see the ruins up north (recommended) and walked the trail all the way south (absolutely recommended). Had absolutely NO problems! Friendly locals, just waved at us and said hello as we walked south. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and there were many ruins throughout. So, if you want to start at the north and work your way south, we say it's definitely worth it to come to Isla Del Sol. Just for Yumani, meh, I'd say pass.

Not worth the long boat ride and the money you spent on it, as it is only possible to see 1/4 of the island. At the ticket office for the boats they give you the impression that you still can visit half of it, but actually that’s not true. You can hike up to a mirador and to the point where the locals are blocking the path, that’s it. Views are nice, but as all the historical sites are on the northern part of the island you miss a lot and I think it’s not worth it.

We are a split decision on Isla del Sol. Husband: Not much to do and there are much better ways to spend a day than to deal with the local population that makes it seem more of a burden to have tourists. Wife: worth it due to the views you get.

long crowded boat ride. not worth it. You can get a feel for the heritage by just walking around the town were the boats leave from. Cocacopana.

Report Check-In

As of Oct. 1st the north end of the island is still closed.
We booked a boat ride to visit the South part and Isla de la Luna with AndesAmozonia, through Joshua Hostel.
8:30 - Left Copa
10:00 - Quick stop at Puerto Yumani, Isla del Sol to drop people off.
11:00 - Arrived at Isla de la Luna. No guide or offer of one. Had 1hr to explore and that was about enough. 10bols to enter island. Left at 12:00.
13:00 - Arrived back at Puerto Yumani. 10bols collected at the dock. 2hrs to explore. We hiked up to town, but you could have also visited the Mirador or small ruins. We would have liked more time to explore.
15:00 - Headed back to Copa.
16:30 - Arrived back at Copa.
This should not really be called a tour. It's should be called a boat ride with some hiking. We spent more time on the slow boat than actually on the islands. It was a nice boat ride, with beautiful blue water. It islands are great and worth a visit. We might have gone with a faster boat if we were to do it again. We packed a lunch and ate it one the boat. Happy that we didn't spend our valuable time on land at a restaurant.

Northern part of the island is still not accessible due to a conflict between the inhabitants of the northern and southern part. We booked a tour on the day itself, went to the harbor at 08:15 (boats leave at 08:30) and paid 35 Bol pp for a trip to isla de la luna and isla del sol. A local guide came aboard and it was optional to book a tour on the island itself with him (only in Spanish) for 30 Bol (we didn't). Isla de la luna was a visit of an hour (12:00-13:00), so you will be at isla del sol at 13:00. We could decide whether we wanted to take the boat back to Copacabana at 15:00 or 16:00. On isla del sol are many restaurants and a hike to the mirador (worth it :)).

Wt the time of visiting only the south of the island is open to tourists due to a local conflict.
