Description

Stunning view of Mount Meru! We came here to eat and after discussing with the very sympathetic owner Beate she told us she intends to open a campsite so we ended up being her first guests. Price yet to be discussed. There's a big green lawn, toilets, cold bucket shower and the food is really delicious and a great firewood pizza! They sell Twiga draught beer which is the first Tanzanian craft brewery. 5,000tzs 330ml. The place is very cozy and with easy access being only a few hundred meters from the tarred road. Really close to city center but it already has a more rural atmosphere and the night was very silent. There's also a craft shop on the premises.

Wow, what a top-notch place! Beate and her husband warmly welcomed us to their property after we sent a little WhatsApp message saying we were looking for a place to spend the night. Their restaurant is in an incredible setting and their food looks very good. We tried the oven-baked pizzas which are just too delicious, and their cocktails are made by the hands of a skilled bartender. This stop at the Blue Heron has rejuvenated us to continue our journey.

As described before, this is a very good restaurant with friendly staff, beautiful view and a flat, grassy spot to camp. Open every day now. Very nice toilets but no showers yet (they plan to build them but don't know when).
You can stay overnight for free if you eat at the restaurant.
We also left the car there for three nights while we were on guided safari, it's very save, three guards all night.

Schwari is a beautifully designed restaurant with fantastic food in a wonderful rural setting just outside of Arusha. The owner, her family and staff are all so welcoming and we loved staying on a grassy field overlooking Mt Meru. Currently no shower but what do you really need if you are properly overlanding? The on site workshops produce quality items that are sold in their boutique. Well worth a stay and would love to have stayed longer.

Amazing place with view to Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro on clear days. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed when we visit, so confirm beforehand that it’s open. Even though it was closed we met Emanuel who let us camp with our vehicle with a rooftop tent and we got to use their toilets and wifi. Luckily we were self-sufficient with food.

What a beautiful place to stay!! We came here on a Monday and Beate welcomed us even it was already late and dark and the restaurant wasn’t open. We ended up staying for a week because we liked it so much there! The restaurant is now open from Thursday to Sunday and offers amazing pizza and a Sunday Breakfast Buffet! I can highly recommend this place!

A wonderful restaurant with a gracious host who allowed us to camp
On the lawns in front of the restaurant and use the toilets. There are no showers or power for overlanders but it is well worth staying over
Beate the owner and hostess is gracious kind and generous. She does not normally open on Sundays but because we asked if we could buy breakfast - she brought staff in and kindly served us. The restaurant and gift shop are currently only open from Wednesday to Saturday due to lower volumes impacted by Covid. Friday nights are the busiest. The road entering the restaurant is easy to miss - look for the sign “Schwari” - on the left after the bridge which is the design house brand name

Not big rig friendly. Low tree and electric cables at start of entry road. Turned back, could not enter.
