Parking lot at end of road by trail. This is the correct spot for the overlanding parking of the two wild camping icons here. Read reviews for both though!
It is peaceful and quiet, though I am having a few battles against mosquitos, but that’s probably to be expected on warm weather. It’s also 80 degrees in late October so no complaints here. Ha

We had a nice, quiet night. This is a good location right by the edge of the water and close to the walking trail. There were no signs saying no parking.
Report Check-InTeeny parking lot by a swamp trail at the end of a small gravel road. Half the parking lot was unparkable for something other than an ATV due to muddy terrain.
Really cool spot though, different than anywhere we have overlanded! Those cypress moss branches make for quite the view. At night, a few people came down the road but turned around once seeing us, or sat idling. Not the best feeling on a Saturday night, but hey, I think a lot of people just enjoy joy rides, or their privacy. We went kayaking off the designated kayak launch, then biked through the trail half way around the lake and turned back. A lot of alligators to see, even a momma and babies which we were cautioned to stay away from. Definitely recommend. Got data here.

Report Check-InNice spot, room for a good handful of vehicles at the end of this road. It's VERY BUSY in the morning with locals who take their boats out.
Report Check-InGreat kayaking here, there's a kayak launch just beyond the first gate. I spent two nights here, the Sheriff showed up the second evening but was just patrolling, no issues with being there. Anglers, kayakers, and walkers showed up before sunrise each morning, they were so quiet I had no idea they were there until I got up for my morning walk. Mosquitos were still present after sunset, but not in large numbers. Would definitely stay again.
Report Check-InCame out here only to find a huge "NO PUBLIC ACCESS beyond this point" sign at the boat launch and a group of folks giving me the stink eye. Decided not to stick around and risk getting hassled later in the night. It was a bit annoying as the spot was out of the way and took a while to get to.
Report Check-InKeep driving past the boat launch and you'll get to a small dead end. There is a 2.7 mile (one way) walking path around the beautiful lake. There is also a pretty river with great fishing if that's your thing. Within the first 15 minutes we saw a water snake, turtles, three alligators of varying sizes, jumping catfish, and some amazing birds (possibly a flamingo flying but I am not sure on that). At night we saw raccoons and so many gators. Some people use this area to launch small boats and kayaks. Spotty Verizon service. Keep dogs close and on leash due to the high amount of gators. We saw at least 20 at night. Mosquitoes an issue after sunset.
Report Check-InGreat end of a dirt road turn off, with a small parking lot and fire road access walking trail. Came in along the Lake Martin rd, then right onto Rookery rd- dirt road. didn’t see a single sign saying anything about trespassing or no overnight camping or parking, and there are signs with other info, that would normally state that. Beautiful night sleep at a brisk 45° in late February. Walked the lake trail in the morning, about 1.1 miles around to the road side entrance, the road from there was quite money going around the rest of the lake, so turned and came back the same way. Would definitely recommend. Use the spot not the other spot
Report Check-InI was disturbed to see No Trespassing when I first arrived. I checked the map and reread the other spot on iOverlander to realize this was the spot, but I almost left. Assuming the app loads it in correctly, this is the true spot between the lake and river. It is peaceful and quiet, though I am having a few battles against mosquitos, but that’s probably to be expected on warm weather. It’s also 80 degrees in late October so no complaints here. Ha
