Description

This road goes to a park and to a trailhead. It’s free parking with no “no overnight parking” or street cleaning signs. A vanlife local let us know about it. It seems to be a common overnight spot and we weren’t hassled. There is a sign recommending to keep your vehicle locked and belongings secure, probably smash-and-grab style theft. The area felt safe and is very beautiful. Highly recommend! It’s up on a hilltop with great views.

Heavily trafficked with hikers starting early morning (5-6 am) especially on weekends.

Pulled in late just to get a few hours of sleep and be on my way early in the morning. There are three other vehicles parked here. I’m assuming there are people sleeping in all of them. Within a few minutes of me parking a security patrol vehicle with lots of bright flood lights came down the road slowly stopping next to each vehicle. No one got out or said anything, but it was kind of creepy having them look in each vehicle. I’m going to get some sleep and will update tomorrow if anything happens.
Morning Update: The security patrol came through a couple of times but never bothered anyone, other than those bright lights.

The view here is incredible! I’m parked along the edge that looks to the north with views across Irvine and lots of Orange County.
As others have mentioned, this is a really ritzy area and it wouldn’t take much to get the locals to complain. Please respect the neighborhood, don’t overstay your welcome and leave it cleaner than you found it.

really nice overnight in a wealthy enclave.

no doubt that this spot will get shut down if residents catch a whiff of camping in the area.

we rolled in after dark. saw two other rigs with us in the morning. tried to roll out early without being noticed.

*****PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THIS SPOT*****

This is an excellent, safe spot with beautiful views of the city, hiking trails, and clean bathrooms at the park.

I'm very surprised this is a popular vanlife/carlife spot as it's in a rich-type area where they seem like people that would call the cops on people camping in their vehicles.

No littering, no loud noises, dont draw attention to yourself... I wouldn't suggest RVs or non-stealth vehicles.

Thanks to whoever posted this spot, it's one of the best ones around LA I've found. Although right around sunrise, many cars start buzzing by which was kind of annoying

This place is awesome. Quiet during the night with an amazing view on the city! Just a few hiker and Mountainbike ride in the morning, but no one cares about you. There are new and very clean toilets nearby with drinking water and picnic tables available.
Please do not abuse this spot!

Beautiful View and quiet by trail and playground. The old GPS coordinates made you go through the very expensive tollway when you put it on Google Maps, so I submitted a correction (33.6057307, -117.8027081).

Note that this is NOT off the highway, but a small road parallel to it. If you use the advice coordinates it should be fine.

When getting there in the dark be mindful of RED-painted curb (no parking) areas; they're a bit hard to see in the dark and I didn't realize it till the next day that I was partially parked in one.

Other than that, beautiful and quiet place. As stated before it gets busy in the morning with people riding mountain bike and hikers.

Another quiet and pleasant evening parked on the street with almost no traffic. There are covered picnic tables here so we stayed dry while brewing our coffee on a rainy morning. We liked this spot so much, we came back!

Aka just outside Coastal Peak Park. One of the nicest informal camps! There are picnic tables and water fountains and flush toilets in the park, reasonably flat parking spots with 180 degree views of the mountains on the street. Quiet, clean and safe. Highly recommended versus a $60 state park camping. Minutes from Huntington Beach

Very nice and quiet place. Playground for kids, bathroom and water. Nice view :)

Bel endroit tranquille. Parc de jeu pour enfants, salle de bain et eau. Belle vue!

such a peaceful place. Wonderful view. I would stay there again.

I honestly love this place. I’ve slept here 3 nights now (not consecutively), and it is by far the best spot I’ve found near the coast/Irvine/LA area/Huntington beach etc etc. It is absolutely gorgeous, some spots have reliable 3 bar LTE, it’s pretty quiet, and it’s an awesome place for letting out my cat. Pretty much all of the people here in the day time are hikers/bikers. I talked to a local who said this was a safe place to park overnight because the surrounding neighborhood is pretty wealthy. I’ve parked on the Main Street leading in, all the way down by the cul-de-sac and didn’t love those spots. They get wicked busy in the morning because it’s exactly where the trailhead is. Parking with the view of Santa Ana is gorgeous but you can definitely hear highway noise. Finally, I parked on the cross street and it feels much more private (I can open up my side door and no one is walking by), there’s a great view here, and plenty of wild space for my cat. Compared to how craaaaazy busy it is closer to the ocean and cities, I absolutely love this spot.

Rich neighborhood on the edge of Crystal Cove State park. You park away from all houses in between a neighborhood park and the edge of the state park. We stayed here two night with no issues. Very comfortable. Be ready to interact with people though, popular area for bikers and hikers. Free public restrooms at the park

I stayed for one night. Some teenagers came and played music pretty loudly in the evening, but eventually left. In the morning, around 9:30a, someone started driving up & down the street blaring their horn each time they passed my van. Normally I would be gone by this hour, but there was a really bad storm that didn’t seem safe to drive in (strong wind/downpour/flash flood alert) and I was waiting it out. Somehow still a priority for this person to do this though…so all in all, I didn’t get a ticket or a knock, but I didn’t exactly feel welcome either. As a solo female, I don’t think I’d stay here again.

Park at the end of the cul-de-sac and you won't be bothered by cars coming up the cross street that turn left.

This is a quiet place after about 10 p.m. Great view out over the hills. You also get the ocean breeze coming up the canyon. A park with bathrooms, picnic tables and covered picnic pavilion. There are no parking control signs anywhere on the street. Verizon speed was 13.2 Mbps down/6.6 Mbps up but the signal was weak and would cycle between one bar or 3G.

Also lots of hiking trails here and you can hike four miles down to the beach.

I would come here again.

I hate Orange County!

It’s after midnight and cars keep driving up and down this road for no discernible reason. Screaming out the window as they drive by.

One truck just pulled up behind me and turned on his brights. Sat there for 5 minutes, then sped away.

Not the peaceful place to sleep I was hoping for. It’s a bit shady. Probably bored HS kids, but there is a big glowing sign on the road up saying “lock your vehicle, secure your possessions”.

Think I may leave and take my chances elsewhere.

paved turn around at a trailhead. street parking. high on a hill with santa ana lights in the distance.

Mostly quiet place to park. Some kids came around 11pm and were a little loud, but it was short lived. While I was excited to hit the trail in the morning, it doesn’t allow dogs. Thankfully, there is a big park where he was able to run around.
