8am till 5pm open.
DRC to Angola
We arrived a little bit to late in case off a horrible traffic jam in Matadi, so we slept at the border. Not recommended, to many people, to much noise until 1am. Officer are friendly.

Roads in Matadi are under construction at the moment. Big potholes.

DRC exit easy, get everything stamped. They wanted money for copies of Passport and stamp. Didn’t had any cash left, was fine for them.

Angola totally easy. Used Cabinda TIP again, ask the friendly Custom officer to copy passport and yellow fiver., he did. Emigration 5min.

Total border less than 1h.

DRC -> Angola

No CDP

Easy border. We crossed on a Sunday. Copy guy wasn’t there so we didn’t have to pay anything. We left one copy with both our passports on it which we still had in the car.

Exchange rate:

3000 DRC - 1000 Angolan
1 USD - 900 Angolan

Watch out for the inflation. Money exchange at DRC immigration building.

Report Check-In

Easy and quite fast border. DRC side had to make copies of our passport because they needed some with the visa on it. And yes, they are bit expensive, but okay. On Angola side all easy as well (bring copies of passport & yellow fever). They stamped our TIP from Cabinda “in” again and also stamped our CDP :D

The road from here was quite bad for an hour that’s true (meaning tarmac with lots of potholes and after a while dirt track with also potholes). Then the road got really good with an amazing view. Unfortunately there were some barriers on the highway after a while, so we had to drive the rest of the way to M’banza on side roads. They were build extra for the detour, so they are dirt roads, but flat and not muddy. But we were slower than we planned. But don’t be scared to take this border, it’s all good :) and another advantage is that you just have to drive trough a small part of the crazy city (with also bad roads) instead of the whole way trough it, if you think of the border.

I just arrived through here from Congo in Angola direction and ****NO CDP was asked for ***** and they accepted and stamped my passavant which I got in Cabinda Angola. I do not have a cdp. I have also heard Angola was never a member of the CDP system. I did not have to pay any money either and only waited ten minutes in AC office.

The road from here is bad for around an hour but intermittently good after that so don’t think it’s all the way like that to the first town. Seems it’s being done more and more every time one of us writes about it.

Report Check-In

all good, RDC side i was guided for a inmigration officer, all good. they make the copyes for me, i had to pay of course

in Angloa side, no problem at all, but seem its a new rule: CPD.
they asked for CPD, i had the tip ii got in cabinda (after pay 6600 kz) but they dont care about that, i have the CPD so they stamped and all was ok.
i asked about this, and they show me a "circular letter" (oficial) where suposed to say thay from 22/7 the CPD is mandatory.
they show me the new place to keep the CPD tikets, and there was only 1 ticket, with mine now there is 2.
i dont know what happen if you dont have CPD

Report Check-In

Nothing much to add. They offered to make copies for us on the DRC side. Was a bit expensive but okay. On both sides there was one officer who guided us through all the steps. Quite a pleasant border.

Be aware though that the road after the border is quite bad. They’re building a new one which seems to be finished soon-ish. But at the moment it takes quite some hours to make it to M‘banza-Kongo.

DRC > ANGOLA

DRC Side : it was a mess and the officer who took our passports was really unfriendly. Anyway, we got our exit stamp on passport and CPD quite fast. They also checked our vaccination carnet.

ANGOLA Side : friendly and smily staff
- stamped in our passport (we did our visa in Cabinda Border) - we got 30 days so your time in DRC is not a waste for Angola ;)
- they asked ONE copie color with : your passport page, your angolese visa, your entry and exit DRC stamps - of course you cannot did it in advance so you have to do it on DRC Side (no copie possible on Angola side) - keep some Congolese Franc for that because we paid in Kwanza and it was really expensive (forgot the exact amount ...)
- Put an entry stamp on your véhicule tip

In total, for the 2 borders, took us 1 hour

really quick and easy border. if you don't have your angola visa, DRC visa, and passport copy they will charge you 5000FC (!!!) to print it here....
it is also easy to change your FC to KZ here.
then the road to Mbanza Congo is almost done: the first 50km are flat laterite 2WD and big rig friendly, and almost the entire following 100km are brand new tarmac. people told us that the short cut to Tombocto is not passable, so we didn't try it.

Report Check-In

We crossed the border on Sunday so it was very long (customs receiver was not here), then immigration was very long too. They asked again a copy of our visas and passports.
Then you have to go to the health tent before you can leave.

NOQUI BORDERPASS. Quick and calm border on both sides. Terrible 5 km. dirt and extremely bumby road from Matadi to the border. Really difficult on wet season. At the border, superfriendly People. We ve been asked for E.U. covid vaccination certificate (copies in paper). Be aware no fuel station until M'banza Congo, 160 km. hard and slow dirt road, away. Road is under reconstruction (chineses companies making New tarmac road)

Report Check-In

Make sure that you have a photo copy of the first page of your passport an the visa in coller on one page. we had the copies separately what they didn't except. With a scissor and some gluw we put them on one page and the where very happy (and we to!)
further the same what the other people describe but still worth to take this route during rain season. make sure that you have a winch or travel with an other car. it's a route where a 4x4 is made for. we loved it!

Report Check-In

don't forget coloured copies of Angola visa and passport. DRC immigration offers it for 3.000,-.... so you can ask already in Matadi if you want.

In rainy season I won't recommend this border crossing, at least not for big rigs. We had luck and got on that road just before the Angolan trailers, we had to pull out another trailer and some 4x4. Later we heard that 2 trailers tipped over at this road.

Report Check-In

quiet border crossing when I was there. helpful ppl on both sides. DRC side needed my vaccine card, my dogs vaccination book and my passport/Visa which they made a copy of themselves. they also requested my 'customs' card which I had no idea what they were talking about. they may have meant a CDP but they let me proceed without either.

Report Check-In

Border crossing takes some time. Very friendly people on both sides. Custom and immigration on the same place. Money change on dcr side.
For Angola there is a copy of passport with visa on the same paper needed.

Report Check-In

I arrived at the DRC side of the border at about 5pm, which was just enough time to get stamped out and rushed through the gate before it closed at 6pm. The Angolan side was very welcoming but as they were also closing they permitted me to camp at the border post with a beautiful view of the Congo river. The border opened again at 8am and was fairly easy. Color copies are in fact needed. Change money on the DRC side before you cross (check kinguilahoje.com for the real exchange rate) because it's actually easier here than in Luanda. The road into angola leads to Mbanza Congo and is rough but fine for most vehicles.

Report Check-In

The border crossing at DRC and Angola went really smooth. It took about 45 minutes in DRC and 30 minutes in Angola. You need the coloured copy's mentioned before in Angola.
The road to the border is not that good. Lot of potholes but not impossible. And the road after the border is a little bit difficult at the first 50 kilometers but after that it gets much better and in the end you have asphalt. The first 50 kilometers is gravel and sometimes some difficult parts in it were the big trucks damaged the road. But we drive a 2x4 campervan and managed well in dry season. The environment is really beautiful and it is worth driving. You cross the border at Noqui and drive to Mbanza Congo.

Report Check-In

This one really took some time! Very slow progress, especially with the customs guys. But probably still quicker than at the main border at Luvo. At immigration they want a coloured copy of your passport and Angola visa, which you can get for small money at the DRC side of this border post! All in all it took us 3 hours, but mainly because of customs...they said they were having a computer problem and that is why it took so long... immigration itself was quite quick.
There ARE money changers there at the DRC side, just next to the police and the gate...got a good rate: 39.000 Kw for 100 US$

Report Check-In

Slow but friendly, no hassle or charges or any forms to fill in! Make sure you have a copy of your visa, passport copy, and itinerary as this makes it easy. They also want to see the DRC passavant. If you have been to Cabinda, they will just stamp that passavant. No money changers this side of the border.
