Latest Check-Ins

All campers just inside of gate are gone with signs now saying No camping in first mile or 300’ of road. 4wd needed to camp now.

Report Check-In

As of Nov 2022, don't bother going here. Total homeless encampment, and no open sites even if you wanted to camp here. Gate was left unlocked and everyone here was clearly living here. Went up to the north gate and it was much better.

Report Check-In

Highly recommend this entrance over the north entrance! Anything less than 4x4 will find a few good spots not far in from the gate…some shade spots even
Definitely a lot of mountain bikers, atv and Jeep off roaders going in and out - and definitely do the trail if you have 4x4!

Also, a few long term tents here and there, but overall with the off road traffic felt safe and stayed for three nights

Report Check-In

We arrived Sunday night and all the weekend warriors were packing up their dirt bikes and ATVs. There were a few campers but a substantial number of camping places remained; all very dispersed and private. The night was silent with exception of jet aircraft climbing out of Phoenix Sky Harbor very high overhead. Not a bother. Lots of birds in the morning and gunfire from the shooting range started at 0700 estimated at 2-3 miles away. This is a great spot for people like us visiting relatives in the east Phoenix valley/Scottsdale region. There are precious few RV parks in this area and the ones with available space charge $70/night. Hotels are ruinously expensive.

Report Check-In

Busy! It used to be a great place to stay your 14 days, now not so much. Tons of homeless staying here in tents taking up whole RV sites, toilet paper everywhere, trash now accumulating and just not enjoyable anymore. Rangers and Sheriff will remove long term homeless if someone complains, otherwise just plain over run by inconsiderate people. Not much wildlife anymore, guys they had to leave to accommodate humans. Sad! Many people also don't pay the 6$ online for a 6 mo. pass and just go thru locked gate with others.

Beautiful place especially if you're in for hiking or mountain biking. We were here early march and most of the sites unoccupied. A few spots for big rigs but a bit sandy. We have a class C 30 feet and had no problem. With a real big rig I would walk the sites before going in.
There is a gate with a combination lock. To get the lock numbers you have to register in "recreation.com" and pay $6.00 good for 6 months. The only downside is you ear from far away the nouse of a shooting site.
Overall I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Report Check-In

this is a large dirt parking lot on national forest land. I did not get the permit and gate code to go inside the trails (roads) but I saw others do so. there is 14 day camping allowed inside for sure inside the gate. there are not any no camping or no overnight parking signs at the lot. lots of mt bikers here everyone morning and evening. slept in the car no problems. not a super flat parking lot but there are flat enough spots. also all along the main road around here there are pulloffs where people park to bike if all you want is a place to sleep and are not concerned with "camping".
