Half a mile down FS roads off 395. The exit is marked with a right turn lane and becomes a mess of roads. This is passable by 4WD with some clearance. Road gets rocky farther back.
The site can take a couple of vehicles in the afternoon shade of trees with level parking. A 50 foot walk up the hill provides tons of flat tent spaces. There is a fire ring, but please use it thoughtfully and legally.
Sierras to the west and rocky/trees hills all around. Sound of wind in the trees. Cool after the heat of the desert.
4 bars of Verison, 1-2 bars ATT.

This is an incredible spot by a lone pine. Great view of the snow-covered peaks. A little 395 noise but not terrible.
Report Check-InSpots closer to the road are clear, but the road is washed out. 4x4 required to get much back on the road. Plenty of room close to the highway.
Report Check-InJust a mile up the dirt road. Can see 395 hwy where I camp. Nice view and gentle breeze to keep the temperature bearable this summer. Flat surface for my Tacoma camper. May have room for another similar camper. Easy in easy out to explore Mammoth lakes tomorrow. Thanks iOverlander
Report Check-InWe loved this spot!!!! So beautiful and private. Easy drive for our 2wd sprinter van. Absolutely no fires, multiple signs posted.
Report Check-InGood spot and a nice change of scenery if you are traveling north on 395. There's trees!! I didn't stay at this exact location, there are a few other good spots just down the road too. 4WD not required, but high clearance very helpful to get here. Is close enough to the highway that you will hear traffic noise at night. It's a nice area to explore with lots of fantastic views to find and a short hike to the gorge.
Report Check-InQuiet site just a few minutes from 395. High roof rwd Ford transit made it in no problem.
Report Check-InHalf a mile down FS roads off 395. The exit is marked with a right turn lane and becomes a mess of roads. This is passable by 2WD with some clearance—probably not for a Prius or other like vehicle. Road is firm with a slight hump in the center. Big occasional turnaround areas.
