Guatemala
The road in was a lot rougher than we thought. 4WD is an absolute must, and there can be low hanging branches. Bring a saw! You can camp in a big area behind the admin buildings, and there are some facilities available. Nice and quiet spot in the jungle, and the only place to camp close to the El Zotz ruins. From here we started our trip through the jungle to Uaxactun (4WD+winch+saw&axe!). Price: free (park entrance was 80 quetzales)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
I confirm that without a permission it is not possible to drive from Cruce Dos Aguadas to El Zotz. The permit must be asked in a National Parks office in El Remate.
Report Check-InYou can't go by car anymore to the ruïnes of el Zotz. You can go to the entrance of the park but then you have to leave your car there and hike 23 km (one way) to the ruïnes. They don't give any permissions anymore to drive the road because of robberies and vandalism at the ruïnes .
Report Check-InThe road has definitely changed. Nicely graded. Now 50Q entrance fee. Very easy to get permission form from Tikal administration building. Best part of ruins were the fact that no one was there, at all!. Places to stay-eat in village. Possibility to camp in village, just need to ask around.
