Description

Nice and quiet wild camp on a small hill (former carry) with nice views on the dam and river. you need a 4x4 to reach this place, the last 50m being steep and rocky. the place is flat with a weak edge MTV signal.
with our 2x4 campervan we stayed just downhill and spent a very quiet night, nobody around.

Nice spot ! The sunset was crazy with the baboons behind us. Perfect.

nice spot, baboons are still there ! we were 2 cars that night. however, we missed the path entry. we took the one just between the correct one and the bridge and we made it but very bumpy and through some trees 😅 I attached a picture of the correct path to take.

Very nice spot for a night or more, very quiet, all alone during our stay. Arrived at 7pm, left at 11 am. No one seen, open area on top of a hill, far from a road and from a town. Need a classic 4x4 to get up there. Definitely recommend.

One of the best wild campsite in NAM! Good view over the river until the dam. Very quiet at night.

It’s exactly as described. There is a significant amount of dumping at the entrance which is sad to see, but the elevated quarry site is clean. And the view is phenomenal. You can be seen from the main gate of NWR Hardap, so people know you’re there but we talked to the gate guards and they laughed about the whole thing - there’s no issue with camping here.

Final road up to the quarry is steep. 4x4 required as stated.

Hot during the day. We turned up at 5pm and decided to return at 6:30pm. Meanwhile we enjoyed a drink at the viewpoint restaurant in Hardap. Gate fees are a bit pricey but the drinks prices are reasonable. And the view is priceless.

Lovely peaceful spot. Looks like someone has dumped some trade waste next to the track on the way in. I spent several nights here and even though you are visible from two quiet roads and several local buildings, no one came up aside from one of the local goat herders. We didn’t speak the same language but he was very friendly. Lots of bird life, the previously mentioned baboons and some dascies.
*Note - park away from the rock wall, the baboons tend to knock/throw rocks off on their afternoon climb.
There is another spot on the other side, not quite as level but only visible to the roads not the buildings. 2wd access to both sides is fine as long as you have a bit of clearance. Enjoy and leave no trace 🙏☺️

Can confirm the initial description. Great overnight stop, very quiet and protected from the wind E . I arrived late and initially missed the track to the side of the road. Its just before the low water bridge. The last section is not that steep just need some clearance. Woke up to beautiful views of the fish river with sand grouse and fish Eagle calls. There are some mosquitos and a large troop of baboons that sleep on the cliffs but they didn't bother me and its nice to watch them swim in the river in the morning. Definitely recommend this spot. Nice big flat area and conveniently located off the b1.
