Something not right?

Description

New refugio built by Porvenir Municipality with toilet and a wood stove (now missing). Table (now missing) and seating in the main area and a loft-like sleeping area. Windows are double-glazed, both downstairs and upstairs. One night we were 3 people and very comfortable still. Maybe max 4 people with one sleeping on the bench downstairs. Please don’t destroy this place, it’s something awesome for all of us. The municipality do regular visits to check all is ok.

Great place, fortunately not vandalised like the ones closer to Porvenir. Only the table and the stove are missing, and the stinky toilet is out of service. Keep the door closed to avoid odours. Windows can be opened to ventilate a bit. We slept with 4 people that night, two people upstairs and two downstairs.

Report Check-In

Good spot before the Penguins and going further south. Quite clean inside. Much better than the older Refugios further north when coming from Rio Gallegos. Toilet a bit smelly but with closed door ok. Note: The vent of the toilet pit does only work when the toilet lid is shut - when open, the smell is much stronger….

Someone took a shit in the old bus stop :-/, so that was not a good option.

Report Check-In

Nice shelter. We stayed in the old one since the newer was taken by backpackers. There is place for two tents and two bikes inside. Keep it clean!

Report Check-In

buen lugar para pasar una noche. poco tráfico. sin servicios limpios...

Report Check-In

Best Refugio on the road. All windows can be closed, really comfortable! Why don’t people take their trash??

Report Check-In

Didn’t check the rifugio, only slept next to it as there is a lot of flat ground. Windy, not hidden but peaceful at night before the king penguins.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay the night! Wouldn’t use the pit toilet. Although there’s no table or stove, the loft is clean and the whole place is pretty cute. It needs to be swept but there’s no broom, so if someone coming from Porvenir wants to contribute one, that’d be great. Really enjoyed staying here. Would stay again.

Report Check-In

Stayed the night in the new building. No stove or table, but still a bench. It’s pretty nice! The pit toilet smells and we didn’t use it. The place needs a sweep (so if someone feels like contributing a broom when they come that’d be great), but other than that was really nice. The loft is clean to sleep in, and we really enjoyed staying here.

Report Check-In

Very run down. Pit toilet not usable. Very disgusting smell, no door. No facilities like table or so. Everything is destroyed. Hope you don’t need a sheltered space, this gives you just a small protection. Sad that people destroy such nice places

Report Check-In

passed it today for a short break and its okay for one night but not as nice as that one 30km to the east. the old shelter next to it is also okay

Report Check-In

Parked my van behind the old shelter for wind protection, after crossing the border at San Sebastian. Hoped for some company from cyclists in the shelter, but spent the night and morning with some birds instead! Pretty windy place, with some late and early truck traffic to and from the border crossing. Great sunset and sunrise though! I really hope for the heroes on bikes that the shelter remains a somewhat dignified place. Toilet was trashed and most of the furniture removed, but the inside was still clean enough to stay the night comfortably, fortunately. Had some good chuckles about the witty writing on the wall regarding the wind!

Report Check-In

Real nice shelter. We were 5 people tonight. Shelter is in great condition. We left our bikes locked outside to have more space. The toilet is not good :/ but it’s outside so the smell stays out. Keep it clean please :)

No water!

Report Check-In

By far the best one of the first three shelters. No more table but a door, windows, latter to the upper floor and someone even brought a broom.

you could definitively spend a night there.

Report Check-In

buen lugar para pasar una noche. tranquilidad y solo acompaña el viento. en general limpio el entorno.. pero el refugio está sucio y hediondo a orina.. una lastima.. la gente no cuida.

Report Check-In

All in order, there is a stair to go at the second floor. Table missing. Warm inside

Report Check-In

Still in good condition. Wooden stove and table missing, but everything else still usable and clean. Keep it that way! Windows intact, please don't cover with stickers.

Report Check-In

This is a great shelter offered by the Municipality of Porvenir. It's such a shame some people don't respect the place... It was such a mess, we didn't stay there! Garbage everywhere. Probably there was a war in the toilets... I don't understand how we could get such a result! It made me so sad and angry... especially for the people who really need this place! The wind was really strong there.

Report Check-In

We stayed next to the refugio with a truck camper. Calm night. No wind when we were therre

great place to spend the night. the new shelter is still in a very good shape. the place was almost clean (apart from some dead horse flies on the ground). gave it a good a brush and it was a perfect place to crash for a night. keep it clean and don't destroy anything that fellow cyclists can profit from it was well.

Report Check-In

Refugio3 was modern, bright and comfortable and a good place to relax and have meals. It was nicer after I had killed most of the horseflies and swept it clean by means of its broom-head. The handle to the pit toilet was missing and one could not open the door. Luckily a friendly local cyclist Marcello from Río Grande stopped by in his van. He had tools with which to open the door. We wedged it open with an old rag. It was better to sleep in the nearby Bus Shelter and to use the Refugio3 for meals and socializing. Luxury wild camping!

Report Check-In

there are two different shelters here together. One is "casa del viento" (it was occupied when I get there) and the bus shelter. This last one is destroyed by locals. No fireplace, no door, bathroom is all ripped off. Better try the next refugio if you go south to paso San Sebastian.

Report Check-In

We didn't stay overnight but for lunch hiding from the wind the new shelter is very nice.

New refugio built by Porvenir Municipality with toilet and a wood stove. Table and seating in the main area and a loft-like sleeping area that warms up very well if the wood stove is going. Windows are double-glazed, both downstairs and upstairs.

almost clean. good place for the night. Up to 7 places inside....

Report Check-In

I got dropped off here after my seatpost broke on the dirt road. it was clean inside and the window was ok. it's for sure one of the best places to stay in the area. according to some writing on the wall: Another Refugio for 2 people 3.2 km south. water in Creek 5.3 km south. clean river 14 km south. Refugio 16 km south - dirty.

Report Check-In

It was not very clean. I would prefer to camp in a tent. But when its windy, late and rainy this place could be it... in the direction of north to cerro sombrero i have seen 1 - 2 other shelters... did not check the status. I did not stayed here.

The Cyclists Refuge
Door and windows ok on April 18.
3G full(Entel).
Keep the wind out.
La vie est belle.

Report Check-In

Casa del Ciclistas ;-)
Some water available in the blue drums scattered around roadworks.

Report Check-In

In November 2017 were no beds. Broken window repaired now. Inside is enough space for two tents. Otherwise minimum 7 people are able to sleep here without tents. No further wind protection nearby!

Report Check-In

Perfect protection of the wind. There is a construction side outside, so it is a bit dusty inside and there are no beds.

Report Check-In

I didn't sleep here but it looks awesome! two beds, everything's clean and good to stay one night!

keep cycling!

Report Check-In

Good place to park the camping car behind the bus stop. Ok for one Night.

Report Check-In

Yes again me and stayed here :) because there is nothing on the road except this bus station. It is still same condition. There are still two bed inside and someone cleaned inside. :) this time another bicycle guy came here and stayed together.

Report Check-In

Not quite the palace of days gone by. Still a good shelter from the wind and rain but somebody/something broke the window and damaged the roof and, as a result, some c**ts decided it was acceptable to use it as a urinal :-(

Report Check-In

It's very popular bus stop :) I stay there one night. There are two beds inside (single and double) It's not too clean and good condition now. But there is nothing on the road for wind protect :( It was rainly and windly when I was there, so I stayed inside. I combined stools and put my mattress on. Okay slept very well.

After me, one backpacker and one motorcycle couple came and they stayed there with me :))

Report Check-In

Best buss stop ever. This place has been upgraded. Fully enclosed, clean, place for 4 or 5 to sleep, out of the wind and dry, no outhouse or water.

Report Check-In

Excelente lugar para una noche, favor de mantener limpio que no cuesta nada..!!

Report Check-In

Between San Sebastian border and the ferries crossing TDF to the continent.
Just behind a bus stop providing reasonable wind protection. Good also for tents , inside the bus stop.
Flat gravel space. Quiet.
