Latest Check-Ins

: Can I camp along the Parkway or at an overlook?
A: The only place along the Parkway that you can primitive camp without a permit is along the Appalachian Trail from Rockfish Gap (MP 0) to Dripping Rock (MP 9.6). Other overnight camping is only permissible at the eight Parkway campgrounds.

Report Check-In

Parked here for the night, right off of blue ridge. Amazing sunrise view in the morning, and only a few people drove by throughout the night. Two other campers were also there. Bathrooms are available in the regular season but are closed in the winter, but there were still some porta potties that were decent. Cascade falls are right there as well. Overall, great place!

Excellent spot. Not sure why it’s allowed, as it’s in NP, but it definitely seems to be. One other campervan and one car-camper who said he’s seen people camping here all the time. Very quiet (right by parkway). Nice views and many picnic tables either down near view or on large lawn area level with parking. Trailhead for 30-min hike to Cascade Falls. Beautiful ! Restrooms dark at night and floor wet but otherwise convenient. Sunday daytime the lot was full with picnickers.

Report Check-In

Only a handful of cars in the afternoon and it was empty by 7pm. A perfectly silent, peaceful sleep. Great view, though sadly the trees block the view of the sunrise. Can't have everything, I suppose!

Report Check-In

Stayed here for one night. No other cars, very quiet. Toilets are open and there are garbage cans available. Woke up with a great view! There is room for multiple cars.

Report Check-In

As mentioned, excellent boondocking spot. Bonus- there is a large dumpster at end of lot. Large grass areas away from road perfect for dogs to get exercise.

Came down Mortimer Rd from Blue Ridge Parkway. There are actually two camp areas at this intersection with room for small RV or RTT, but I think you would have trouble getting a trailer in here. A few tent sites above the main sites would be good for ADV bikes. Nice stream nearby. Some sun through the trees. Overall, a nice spot for the night.
