Lots of open areas, and groves to camp. Most places have stone fire pits, and fire going on. I did see a board later with no fire allowed by Sand Flats.
Access is through gravel road from A10. Decent condition. Saw many sedans (Altima, Audi A5, Ford Focus up in this area). There is snow in the SandFlats loop where a 2WD sedan got stuck. watch for clearance.
Stellar views of mt.Shasta and Shastina.
Fairly quiet.
Lots of bird chirping, and chipmunks running around.
3-4 bars LTE from AT&T. Good service.
No facilities here.

Stayed here two nights without problem. Be smart and follow forest rules and you’ll be fine. Keep it clean and calm, please! We came in a 2wd sprinter 170 and made it but as other reviews said the last portion is pretty brutal. Views are unbeatable.
Report Check-InLarge area with a lot of spots to set up camp. Fantastic views. AT&T LTE kind of present but unusable in my experience.
Report Check-InFollow the rules and you won’t have to worry about tickets… Stayed here a week, watched FS drive by multiple times and had no issues.
Both the upper and lower sand flats roads are pretty rough… I don’t think you really need 4x4 it’s more of a clearance thing. The biggest rigs I saw here was a 30ish foot bumper pull and a medium sized schoolie.
Report Check-InMany spots in the flats. Porta potties. View of Shasta. Cool in the summer
Report Check-InThis whole area is still under snow in May. Only the main road up is plowed and everything else is inaccessible by vehicle.
Report Check-InCool spot tucked away from main road up Shasta. It was definitely a little rougher of a road, lots of rocks and very rutted but doable in my SUV. Despite some of the reviews my ATT service was very spotty. I wouldn’t count on having it. But the views were awsome. There were several other campers there, as well as some spots in the forest on the way.
Report Check-InI had such high hopes for this place. But the insanely bumpy road made me want to turn around in my short bus. It’s not 4WD, and I would not recommend anyone going down that road unless they are not worried about their tires puncturing. I got to the end and there was only 1 bar of Verizon LTE. Decided to stay in the lot right across the road from the entrance which I stayed for a few days.
Report Check-InPLENTY of space to spread out, very peaceful and quiet. Road up/down is doable but ruts can get you stuck if not careful while turning around. Great place!
Report Check-InLots of great spots with a view of Mt Shasta. Made it easily with a 2WD Sprinter. Some fire pits had no fire flags stuck in them.
Report Check-InTried to access early May 2022, there is a large fallen tree blocking the path less than .25 miles from the site. It would be tough to hike around, and there is not roadside parking nearby to leave your vehicle.
