Description

Merchants Millpond State Park offers several types of campsites, each with different amenities (as described below). I stayed at a very spacious paddle-in site, which I reserved online.

In addition to camping, the park offers several amenities: hiking and paddling trails, canoe rentals, picnic tables and shelters, fishing, and a visitor center with snacks, drinks and exhibits.

Decent cell service with Verizon.

The following descriptions are from the park's website. Note: prices vary depending on type of site and season.

Tent and trailer camping
The family campground is in the midst of a pine/hardwood forest just beyond the park office. Twenty campsites for tents and trailers offer picnic tables and grills. A washhouse with drinking water, restrooms and showers serves the campground. There are no electrical hookups, water or dumping station.

Group camping
Organized groups will enjoy a stay in the walk-in group camping area or in a canoe camping group site.
Facilities for the walk-in sites include a small washhouse with a shower. Drinking water is available nearby.

Backpack camping
Reach five campsites for backpack camping by hiking a side trail off Lassiter Trail.
Campers must pack all supplies, including water, to the sites. A pit toilet is nearby.
Views of the "enchanted forest" and Lassiter Swamp await those who travel to the backpack camping area.

Paddle-in camping
Reach three canoe camps by way of paddle trails leading from the boat ramp.
Orange markers lead to the family canoe camp with 10 sites. Yellow markers lead to the group canoe camp, which offers three sites. Pit toilets are available, but campers must carry in all supplies, including water, and carry out their trash.
The third canoe camp is located down Bennett's Creek, approximately 4.5 miles from the boat ramp. Bennett's Creek canoe-in campgrounds are carry-in, carry-out with no restrooms.

This is definitely a hidden gem with great car camping sites, flush toilets and showers. If you arrive without a reservation and drive the loop all the sites will be listed as reserved. Fear not, they are most likely available. The campground has adequate cell reception so I was able to park in a spot and subsequently reserve it on the spot. There's some nice walking trails near by so you can stretch your legs. Today I'm one of 3 occupied sites and cannot see or hear anyone else. I can hear the highway off in the distance but it's just a dull roar.

Very peaceful under utilized campground with exceedingly helpful staff. Sites in family campground are well situated and decently maintained. Trails are fantastic and the Lassiter trail was unpeopled for most of its length. Stop in at Hubs Vine for locally grown peanuts!

Unfortunately, my stay was short lived... there was a high bassest pitched 'droning' machine running all night. I experienced odd vibes. Any one know what that constant sound is??
