BLM land 1 mile north of the entrance to the North Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Road easily passable for all vehicles. A few level dirt spots. Plenty of space for vehicles and tents. Can’t vouch for the road too far back as I got one of the first few spots. 2-3 bars of LTE on Verizon and AT&T. Gorgeous sunset, great stars at night. At least a couple of spots with fire rings. Only one other camper on a Thursday evening.

We spent two amazing nights on this BLM land. Super quiet, with only a few other rigs far off in the distance and the most incredible views into the mountains beyond. Gorgeous sunrise and sunsets. Only 1 bad on Verizon but we set up our satellite and had full connectivity.

the gravel road to get here is sedan friendly, just go 10MPH. it's a large area which can fit many vehicles. beware of horse poop. I had excellent T-Mobile service. this is a great place to stay right outside the north rim of Black Canyon.

FYI-- This location is temporarily closed from Dec 1- July 15 for protection of the Gunnison sage grouse. See pics

Stayed two nights here while exploring the north rim of the Black Canyon. Absolutely amazing views and super quiet. Almost spooky quiet. Great for a relaxing night. Service in and out.

Check a picture I uploaded to see dates when area is closed to dispersed camping and motorized vehicles. Not open year round. But damn good when it is open!

Great spot! Very empty and open for a Friday night. Some Verizon service, though kind of spotty.

nice and quiet place to stay. we have a 30ft skoolie and had no issues driving in or out. a bit of difficulty leveling since most spots have some degree of slant. DEFINITELY COME WITH WATER. there is no water nearby, if it wasn't for a man who saw us struggling and took us to his place to fill up we would have had to leave completely. beautiful area though and the night sky is amazing!!

The place is as described. The road in is a little bumpy but easily done if you take it slow.
It was very windy the night we arrived so we stayed in and watched a movie but there’s lots of space to walk.
FYI. The Iron Creek campground just north of here on highway 92 charges $36 / night! Yikes that is steep. We hace better things to spend our $ on.

I took the first spot since I’m just in an SUV. Only one other van passed me that night (a Friday night), so it’s most likely going to be pretty private. Some of the best views around! Spotty Verizon service.

Report Check-In

No amenities, obviously, but nice location. the first spot is slanted, but the second spot treated me nicely. Wonderful place to stay the night before you explore a few spots.

There are additional sites down the road. The first spot was taken so we continued down the road and found another one about 1/4 mile down. Nice views and great sunset. A full lunar eclipse and a morning filled with wild flowers made this a very special place.

Great access to North Rim of the Black canyon.
Great views of the mountains.
Roads are a bit rough, wouldn't be able to make it super far without a bit of clearance or a stout, patient heart. Could get muddy after rain.
Roads go on for a long ways, tons of decent spots out here. Many with trees and privacy.
Doesnt seem heavily used, surprising considering its proximity to a NP.

your basic BLM land right before the park begins. right off the road that takes you into the park. flat and easy for most cars, with a little patience though I didn't see a trailer go by. plenty of spots for anyone that stopped by. great views of needle rock and the surrounding mountains. this area is closed in the winter months but otherwise a great spot for checking out the north rim of the park.
