Rio Mantaro | Wild Camping

We didn't end up staying here -- it was a full quarry with many trucks coming and going. While no one said anything to us (i.e. that we could not stay there overnight), we wanted a place that was a little more peaceful. We stayed in a pullout a little further north right off the road. The main road gets super quiet during the night, so it ended up being fine.

Had a bit of a bad experience here. I got hassled by a drunk/crazy man in the night and in the morning. I was quite spooked by it. Said he lived just above where the camping spot is marked.
Think he was relatively harmless and if you're in a vehicle or in a pair/group you'd probably be fine but on my own in a tent I had a very sleepless night and had to pack up and leave quickly in the morning, with him standing over me too close for comfort, talking at me lot, and regularly blowing a whistle very loudly!

Great spot!! But be Carefull, dont drive near the river, theres a hydroelectric that controls the river so you never know when it will be flooded. We had a super quiet night and morning!! Beautiful!

Big stone beach next to the river enough space for many many many campers ! all sice and easy to find a level spot ....it is winter time so the river is low ....We camp in the "river bed " of the summer river. Maybe isn't an option in that time. Some trucks taking stone from the river....we asked and they said is not problem to stay. The river looks amazing, and after the drive on this road (not so fun with a short schoolie bus ) It was great to find this spot. Since there are almost not option to wild camping in this area. Most of the pin are for tent and half of them you still far away from the river. So we were super glad to find this spot.

Buen lugar para hacer camping, nosotros estamos viajando con una moto vespa y vinimos de Huancayo.
La ruta es asfaltado en partes y otras veces de tierra.
Hay tráfico pero para la moto es mas fácil que para un auto por lo angosto de la ruta.
Es tranquilo y solo tienes el ruido del río.

May be a bit open for vehicles, but two wheel travellers can find reasonably secluded spot. Ignore the flood washed litter and say hello to Nibble & Chew, the grazing horses. In August the river was too cold to bathe.

The steel cable has now been pushed down making it possible to drive over. The river bed was full of trash and 2 cars pulled up behind us seeing us enter over the cable. lots of car tracks and fresh footprints in the sand and visible from the town across the road. Didn't feel comfortable staying here as it was still daylight and felt a little exposed.

Nice quiet night. The place is well sheltered from the road.
!!! They add a steel cabel that is blocking the way. A motorcycle can go beyond but a car cant pass.
